The end of WSM and WSSM?

I have heard that the wssm's were going downhill, but as posted earlier with the intro into the ar upper market I think that will help them some. As far as the wsm's go I own a 270wsm. Bought it for what the numbers said on paper and to have it in the short action pkg. It is awesome! Carries more energy downrange and is flatter than comparable calibers arounds it. But I could see its spendy to buy ammo if you don't roll your own!

Gun manufacturer's don't make any money on us old guys that hang on to our '06's, 280's, 7mm Mag's, 270's or 243's.
They have to invent new calibers and stir up a media frenzy so that the easily influenced will go out and buy a new rifle in the newest "whizz-bang" caliber. That's the way it has been for years. It is new calibers with the associated media hype that sells big numbers of new rifles. There are only so many 270's they can sell. They are boring. Now give me a 270WSM, now that is exciting.
Don't get me wrong, some of these new calibers are fantastic; however, one always has to remember why they were introduced.

I think the WSM/WSSM is love or hate them. I got my first 300WSM in 2003 (that was my 60th birthday present to myself)and I like them and was just an addition to my existing calibers. I rebarrel that rifle then build a 270WSM got another 300WSM in the works. Those calibers didn't stop me from build a 280AI,30-06,270.
I never got into the hype about this caliber vs that and in 45yrs of reloading seen things come and go. Got too many internet experts that enjoy seeing something fail so they can say "I told you so".
I remember when the 22-250/25-06/7-08 were wildcats those caliber were just marketed alittle different. They been around a long time because you could form those calibesr from an existing case.

Amen, muskrat30, it would be boring. Sounds like the Rusian way of doing things, one size fits all.
No, I agree, most of these calibers are redundant to the nth degree. But so what. That is capitalism. Throw out an idea and let the market sort it out. I love it.

I had a winchester coyote light in 300 WSM and had a lot of problems with it not extracting and ejecting the fired brass. Even after sending it back to the factory I still had issues. The rifle was about a 2moa gun even after having it glass bedded so I traded it for a Sako A7 in 300WM then after about a week realized that I still had about 400 rounds of 300 WSM ammo ------ so I bought a tikka in 300 WSM. I rather like the 300 WSM case not having a belt it's kind of like .308 all grown up. The salesmen in the gun store were really down on the WSM rifles though so we may see a lot less of them made. Their take on it was that most guys dont want a rifle in a caliber that cost them $50 a box when they can buy 30-06 or .308 for less than $20. a box and do essentially the same thing with it.
I have to agree that double the price plus some is rough but if you hand load it is a very nice caliber providing you can suffer the muzzle blast which is ferocious.

I had a 270wsm in the browning x-bolt great shooting rifle. I did tons of research on the 270wsm before i bought it. All i can say is it is one bad dude. I took a big whitetail useing 140gr accubonds which is what the rifle shot great with. Man it made a mess of that deer. huge hole in and out looked like it had been shot with a softball. Its super flat shooting round. It was expensive buying factory ammo. But if i would of been reloading at the time it would not been a problem. They are great performing rounds. Hard hitting SOBs. I think several will be around a long time. And a couple of the line up will fall off.
