OK, I know I am beating a dead horse here...but here it goes. Thanks to a member here...(cough cough JEFF cough) I once again a very strong desire to "build" a rifle, capable for semi-long range shooting...kind of. Anyway, If the money was no issue, id love to build something along the lines of a 6.5x47, 260, or even a 7mm platform...however I think I am going to start on a solid platform I already have.
Currently I have a factory barrel/action 700 SPS V 22-250. Its sitting in a HS stock, with vxIII 6.5-20x50 30MM, and trigger is adjusted. It shoots pretty darn well right now with 50gr Nosler CT's. My Thoughts are use this as my base platform considering I already have all the basic's to start from. Jeff and I have talked for months about this and I have considered all kinds of options here, he suggested I talk to Southern Precision Rifles and have him put me something together. I can get a Krieger or Brux barrel in something like a M24 or Rem Varmint contour in 8t for around $315, Then it is $250 to chamber crown and install. A couple other odds and ends possibly and im sitting pretty for a decent price I feel.
Now my question's are....
1) Am I going the right route here using my 22-250 (my FIRST RIFLE EVER AKA my "Baby")
2) What are the negatives of the 8" 22-250
3) Do I want a 22-250 AI...Why?
4) What bullet's/powders are most going with? I know I see a lot on the 75 gr a-max but they seem to be extinct. I was thinking maybe 80 gr bergers, or scenars?
5)What barrels should I look at or stay away from?
6) what barrel length? I was thinking 24" ISH
7) Anything else...?
I know this is long winded and all over the place, but that's how my mind works. I will have a couple extra dollars coming to me in a week or so possibly that may be able to cover a mild "build" so I am just trying to get everything set in my head what I want. Any help good/bad will be helpful.
Thanks
Brian
