The 45-70 and 45 Colt have both been in continuous production since 1873. My guess is that will rate them both the "Kings"............
 
for all around versatility, i would say 30-06. but if your wanting a no-nonsense, get the job done no matter what cartridge thats also easy to handle, 30-30 all the way

Just by looking at the total number of posts that the 2 of you have, We can tell that you must really know something about guns or at least know how to type like you do. You guys need to turn the computer off once in awhile and get some fresh air.
 
That's just it. Want to know about guns? Here we are. Or you can listen to the 1000's of internet posers instead. It don't take long to tell who they are.....

You ever shot a .375? I've owned several... none were bad to shoot at all. In fact... I find them much easier on the shoulder than your average .300 Winny.

I think (my opinion just like yours and everyone elses does not make them wrong or right) you would be hard pressed to beat an 06 for a top choice for an all round caliber. Not saying it can take any and everything, or that it can do it all. Just saying, don't see too many people learning to shoot on anything larger then the 06. Really don't see or hear of too many people shooting matches with a 375 H&H or match guns chambered for that round, and I don't think that there are too many match bullets in that caliber, heck you are hard pressed to find hunting bullets for it in a store. Since alot of people don't load, this is a big factor. Now you do hear of them using the 375 H&H (why no vote for the 375 Ruger?) in Africa for varmints, but not so much here (not saying there are not a few). Where as I bet you can find a few more people around that shoot varmints with thier 06. I think that the main reason they use the 375 in Africa for varmints is mainly cause thats what they have avilable to them, and you never know what might come up on you. Since the average Joe is not going to be running off to Africa or hunting brown bear ALL the time, then my vote goes to the 30-06 all things considered...with the 308, 270, and 280/7mm mag not far behind...Oh, and I do think the 30-30 should be in the running as well. Now if there were a few larger animals that needed all that extra energy or more man eaters around...then it might be a different story...but I bet we would still have heated discussions over whice round was the "best".

From my experience, usually the ones who sound like they haven't, haven't. Or the ones who can't spell/type.

It don't take long to spot a cull.........
 
quarterbored pretty much said it all about the 375 H&H. It's not know for being a killer on both ends.

If the world is North America, the 30-06 would work in most cases, but it's not the best choice in all cases...

If I had to cull down to just one CF rifle, the 375 H&H would likely be my choice as it would allow me to hunt big game just about anywhere in the world, and I could adjust the load to suit the situation...

That's not easy to say about a lot of other choices. Keep in mind, in some locations in the world (in some African locations), the 375 is the minimum allowed for hunting.
