The Making Of The Rabid Rabbit + Tone Board !!!!!

Ive had a few inquiries on how I make my boards.. I figured a picture is worth a thousand words so here are some pics of the birth of the new generation rabid rabbit + board.. Since I got a mill its opened up a new world of making boards as I can cut a square air channel and make it as deep as I want and keep a narrow width.. All my jigs are hand made here at the shop. They are kind of crude but they work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I have a whole pile of jigs that didn't work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif But that's half the fun of making a new sound.. Here are some pics of how I do it..

This is the rabid rabbit +jig with 5/8ths derlin

After the cut its just rough cut at this point..

I cut the board to be able to mill the entire length. It will be later built back up to 5/8ths and cast..

After it comes out of the mill and I've dressed it up a little..

Putting the cap back on and getting it back to 5/8ths and getting it ready to cast also on the rabid rabbit + board I taper the sides with a file..

This is a dumb question but any way how does the width and depth change the sound I'am guesing that the the wider the chanell the deeper the sound,and does the material of the board make a big difference.

Good for you Kerry. i'm proud of you doing what you do.i'm just not into making toneboard's. just dont have that gift. alot to it. keep it up. Rick

Aaron with the square groove you can go deeper without going wider so you can stay with narrow mylar and go deeper to get the sound you want.. It can really drive a guy nuts at times /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Kerry

Great tutorial Kerry. I have always said a mill pays for itself in no time. Once you start learning what a guy can build with them you are open to just about anything. Great job!
