I am having a real hard time starting this response. Not sure which area to tackle.
Clevebug,
I was aked for my opinons by others so I am going to offer just that. First of all you are correct in saying that the original intended idea of this post was most carnage. But reading through the list and seeing the pictures of "this blew up that blew up" I couldn't help but think where are the ethics? I find alot of this thread has been done in poor taste. A bragging tone underlying the whole ordeal and that is wrong. To me there is no glory in blowing things up. Again if you read my post you will see that I am infavor of taking pdogs, Jacks etc. as a means of population and damage control. Shooting things just to watch em blow up is not ethical. Nature and game deserve our respect even if they are vermin. I see no respect of either here. I am pointing out there there is a difference between shooting and hunting. For each of us we define what is a hunt. I simply said that in no way would I consider Pdog shooting hunting. Each one of us defines what is hunting and what is acceptible. Some consider high fence hunts hunting, others do not. Some people out there participate in internet hunting etc. I was flat out stating that shooting pdogs is something I do not consider hunting.
Blackrifle/bug/BIGC,
First of all how can you even group lion hunting and pdog shooting oin the same catagory?
You bringing up my lion in my pic. And try to start something there. First of all yes I am eating the lion. I have had a couple roast off of it, and there are more in the freezer. Did I shoot the lion only cause of the trophy? No, by state law I have to consume the meat as well, so to answer the question, No it was not a "trophy hunt", however it was a hunt that ended up giving me a great trophy. Not to mention lions are pretty tastey. There are many reason that I took that lion. First of all, that was a hand called lion. No dogs, no ecaller, no one else on the stand just myself, my gun and a call. The area I hunted was on public ground and happened to be the same areas I deer hunt in. And the deer population has been down in recent years in part due to lions. The area also has sheep, and in the last year had sevaral sheep taken by a lion. Was it my lion eating sheep? I have no idea, but I was there in part to help the rancher, whom I know. Coyotes/bobcats/badgers/coons are not just trophy animals either. No I do not eat em, but I take every fur I can and try to have their death serve a useful purpose. Again I am not against the shooting of pdogs and pest animals, however I draw a line in what is hunting and what is not. I hate to see wasteful destruction of any creature, this includes roadkill animals, anything shot and left, animals shot just to watch em die, etc. again I understand the need for predation/damage controls, but to call it hunting is not acceptible.
