For those contemplating a new Wicked Hunting Light purchase for the fall season, here's a preview of the new Wicked Hunting Lights W403-IC (IC= Intensity Control) hunting light.

The new W403-IC will start shipping to dealers September 15th.

The W403 is based on the popular W402 design but now has full intensity control.

About the Wicked Lights Full Intensity Control Tail Cap: The W403's Full Intensity Control Tail Cap out classes the competition with true full-range control of light intensity coupled with selectable "ON/OFF" to any light intensity level the user desires - An industry first-in-class ability!

In lieu of using a poorly performing analog circuit design for dimming and intensity control, Wicked Lights uses advanced pulse-width modulation (PWM) technology which provides for a much smoother and wider ranging light intensity adjustment ability and eliminates skewing of LED color which plagues analog designs.

The mechanical tail cap design coupled with PWM circuit allows the user to adjust the light intensity to their exact intensity preference based on ambient light, distance to target animal, and animals reaction to the light (if any). Desirability of this design is easily realized when over a feeder or bait station and having the ability to pre-set the light intensity to the exact intensity for the distance - Not to bright, not to dim, just right, and then turn it "ON" to the exact intensity when needed. The PWM advantage is also easily demonstrated while scanning and having the ability to quickly adjust light intensity up or down based on the animals reactions.

Bert4943,

I believe that the tailcap will not work with the modules from the W402ZF. The modules in the W403 IC are made to work with the dimmer switch.

I was hoping that by just being able to purchase a tailcap and putting it on my 402 that I would be able to have the rheostat functionality. Thanks.

Bert4943,

When the W403's arrive we will also have a upgrade kit for the W402's so they can be configured like the the W403's. The upgrade kit includes the rheostat tailcap and a W403 LED in the color of your choice (Special IC rheostat tailcap & LED will be priced @ $39.95).

BondockOutdoors is correct the W4O3 LED modules are specially designed to work with the Intensity Control tailcap.

What is the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) frequency? Wondering if this frequency is fast enough to eliminate the "strobe effect" when scanning quickly. Would like to know the PWM frequency in Hz (hertz).

Pacecar,

You bring up a very important design consideration regarding PWM frequency. During the W403IC design testing stage of development we evaluated 8 different frequency ranges, all well above 50 Hz, for strobe effect, battery power consumption, affect on LED reliability, and several other very important criteria. Because our testing regiment was both costly, time consuming, and revealed very surprising results we have elected to treat frequency and design aspects of the LED circuit as confidential. That said, there is no strobe or shuttering and the adjustment of intensity is butter smooth.

Devildog,

Regarding the comparison of the W403 to other models, I'm sure you wont be surprised if we feel we have the best light value on the market PERIOD. That said, we are not interested in disparaging other brands and I'm sure there are many satisfied xlr250 users. As to your question regarding a light output comparison, the W403 is several generations more advanced and significantly brighter.
