The venerable Ruger 10/22. Maybe not so venerable.

My dad gave me one for my first gun and it is the most reliable and accurate rimfire I own. It has had over 7,000 rounds through it and it won't quit me never. It has been covered in mud and soaked in the rain and it still goes boom when I need it. I also have only cleaned it twice and that was just a fast q-tip action cleaning job besides always wiping it down with Remington oil after it comes off of the Honda all day. Thanks for buying me a great dad.

I own 3 10/22 rifles and a Charger just because I figured I would get one since they stopped making them. Might be a collectible one day. LOL

Never had any real problems with any of mine.

I got mine as a present in 1976 or 1977. I would say that it has had 100,000+ rounds down the pipe in that time, and it still functions well. Not much of a looker these days, but I wouldn't trade her for the world!

I just finished my stock this winter-just linseed oil, she is still a looker

I bought my 10-22 in 1979, (I think). Never had a problem with it. I have several 25 round clips and 3 of the regular clips. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have loaded up the 25 clips and shot everyone of them empty one after the other. Never a problem. My brother-in-law on the other hand bought one last Summer and he has experienced some jamming problems.

Thanks Hunter...Not the best pic and still have to put her together plus a new scope, the 4 power tasco from 1976 fell apart. Also did my old daisy a couple weeks ago-now that one has some stories. This was the original stock, not stained just rubbed lindseed oil, again, and again,etc...

I've got 5 of them, but nothin on any of them is stock but the reciever. Great lil 22's to shoot. Even stock they're an accurate rifle. Excellent squirrel guns! Everybody should own atleast one of these popular 22's

Ditto on catshooter's comment. Gotta appreciate a man who knows the proper use of a cat. Speaking of things to shoot cats with... I'd say you got the lemon. I have been that guy many times so I understand the frustration. Chock it up to bad luck. I have nicknamed my 10/22 target "kills more stuff than winter" for good reason. Very accurate, min of 4000 rounds through it and I can't recall a single jam.
Better luck next time.

I have three. One from the late 80s, one disguised as a SR 22 and a new one. I have never had a problem with any of them. The bolt release can be learned in five minutes, a bit wired but totally functional. My oldest one shoots the best groups, and while not a tack driver, they all shot very acceptable groups. (1.5-2 inches at 50 meters, I know you are in Canada)

If you bought it for amazing accuracy, you bought the wrong gun. They are plinking guns!

I suggest before you write it off, at least shoot it for heaves sake! Good luck and at least give it a go, if you sale it you will at least get most of you money back.

When you're ready for a good trigger, get a trigger kit,

Power custom trigger

All of these changes only took about an hour and make the ergonomics of the 10-22 much friendlier. If I can take my 10-22 apart and get it back together, anybody can.

All that crap gets in the way when you shoot out the window.
