The zero on my Leupold has driffted a couple times...Why?

I have a var-x3 in 6.5-20x50. Sometimes the zero tends to drift. Why might this be? No I'm not dropping it.

All ammo is the same and the barrel is also free floating. The rings and bases are tight and high quality. It's deffinately the scope.

Check it with a collimater(bore sighter) and see if you can make it drift. Run your adjustments and see if they return zeros. What brand rifle, rings and bases? RR

that happend on my dads rifle but not the same scope never found the problum but now hes got a better scope see if that changes eneything but i never could find the reason behind it.

Is the eyepiece focused correctly. Set the rifle solid or in a vice looking on target at the parallax set distance. Then move your head up/down & left/right without touching the rifle, to see if the crosshair moves on the target.

i was a big game outfitter in Wyo for 27 years so i saw lots of scopes and rifles. i used leupold vari-xIII's on all my rifles for 25 years. had this happen regularly along with windage and elevation adjustment doubling the amount i wanted to move the point of impact so if i wanted to adjust 4" i would only actually adjust for 2". B&L(Bushnell) sent me a 2.5-10X 4200Elite to test for them when they first came out. i loved it so much i sold all my leupolds and i swithched all my scopes to Bushnell 4200Elites! i don't have any problems now or complaints even on my .416 RemMag with QR mounts!

if the rifle has not been glass bedded, or something secure done to the bedding this is likely the culprit, sometimes it takes a few shots for the barrel to settle in after cleaning,

We use that same type scope Longrange Target Model on our sniper rifles forever and have never had a problem like this. Does this model have target turret?

Had a Luppy vari X 111 2.5x8 do some tracking things on me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gifYes it was the scope. It had a mind all its own.I got rid of that scope and put a Nikon Monarch on that rifle.Problen solved! It's probably your scope. Its just hard for the Luppy fan club to except that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well Luppy as you call it would fix it if it is the problem no ?'s asked for free. Go ahead and send that POS Monarch that it made in the Phillipines to their warranty center. If you can get them to give you PO# for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Echo Remington Shooter, I hear tell that Leupold's warranty service is excellent, (although I've never had to use it) just contact them first.

I had the same problem with a leupld VariX III. I sent it back to the factory twice with no change. After looking over the invoice I discovered that when they recieved the scope the wndage adjustment was all the way to the left. I figgured this would put the virticle screw on the curved side of the tube. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif After I centered the crosshairs, and replaced the fixed rings with Burris Singature rings there were no more problems. The Tech at Leupold said this was not uncomon. One more posibility to check. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Good Luck.

It's completley shot no hope. send it to me and I'll give you a hundred bucks for it ,probably moren it's worth . Just kiddin send it in they will fix it no charge.JC
