Thermacell - Does it work?

Alright, I'm going to get one. While I'm at it, I'm going to get some refills.

Is there any reason to get the "earth scent" refills?

My duck hunting buddies made fun of me when i brought it to camp last season. After 15 minutes of getting eaten alive opening morning they were ready to give up and head back to camp. You could hardly inhale without getting a mouth or nostril full of skeeters until I pulled out the thermacell and fired it up. within 5 minutes there were only a few buzzing around and within 15 min. they were completly gone! 2 of them went out and bought theirs that night.

Baystate,
ROGER THAT! I spent 9 years in an OA-10 Squadron. We were Forward Air Controllers (23d TASS). It was some of the best years of my life. We were the Ba Ba Black Sheep of modern day. Went to Desert Storm, lost a good friend last day of the war, he got shot down and crashed trying to land and our Ops Officer got shot down and entertained (tortured) by the Iraqis. Love the A-10, nothing like seeing them rock the GAU-8...

I didn't know they made earth scented pads. Can't hurt. I deer hunt marshes in Maryland. Early bow season would be almost impossible without it. Bugspray does nothing in that marsh with the biting flys. Those things drink deet and laugh. Thermacell works great. I just wish it worked on ticks.

They work wonders, I have arrowed 2 140 class whitetail bucks the last two years and I attribute the therma cell with alot of the credit. Without it I would not be able to sit in my stand due to Our state bird, the Notorious mosquito.

Buy it, you wont be dissapointed.

I ordered one. I got some earth scent refills to try also.

Yesterdays turkey hunt made me realize that I needed one quick. I figure I can use it when I fish this summer too.

In my experience, they typically work well enough until there's enough breeze to chase most bugs away. There is that transition period between relative calm and windy where you may have a few intruders. If the breeze is fairly steady, but not enough to move the bugs away, you can also place the unit a bit upwind of your stand/position so the pesticide "smoke" still covers your position.
