Thermal decision help.

Looking for a thermal scope for shooting coyotes in Iowa. Beginner scope but I want thermal with video and audio recording and under 2600 if I can get it . The ATN Thor 4s look awesome but the horror stories have me scared. Flir 233s dont do audio.. Pulsars that record are over 3200 bucks... Anybody im missing here? Dont know much about external DVRs options but they kinda seem like a pain. My mind says Thor 4 but scared of what I read. Any help?

You are right, there are limited options that include recording video and audio at this price level. Besides what you mentioned, you could go with a Bering Optics Hogster-R 25mm ($2145) and add a Night Goggles Mini DVR which includes the pouch for a little over $100. External DVRs are kind of a pain in the rear, and they hurt the recording quality but are an option.

There can be problems with any brand. The question is do you have a dealer and manufacturer that will stand behind the product. There is a reason very few thermal dealers carry ATN.

Checking with a guy I know who sell's pretty reasonable on an XQ38. Maybe he can get close enough that it would be an option.

ditto on the xq38. I have 3 Trijicons and 2 Pulsars. I got a pretty good deal on the xq38 and consider it the best bang for the buck. I use it for a guests scanner.

I just ordered a THor4 384 2X8 been watching some Facebook groups for 18 months.
I also have an ATN 4K 5X20 and an ATN Sight II 3X14. I like NV with the IR lights.
I also have THor LT 3X6. That THor LT is nice, great picture and lower price, Smaller scope.
The THor4 software works like my 4K. With the THor4 I can use an ABL1000 range finder even at night.
I just do not have 4K for just one scope. I am buying a refurbished THor4 and saving money.

ATNs picture and features look best of the class but good god do they have a lot of issues it seems like . Might just have to bite the bullet on a trail .

Call Tom at Night Googles, He hooked me up with a Black Friday Special, ask him about any Christmas deals but you have to call him!

Just remember that you are coyote hunting in Iowa not hog hunting in Texas. It's not just about price. Every scope has a purpose. Some of the less expensive models just don't I'd a coyote far enough for coyote hunting in farm country. Especially where farmers have dogs or you need to positively ID other game animals. Very hard to judge distance also so a deer on the next hill over could look like a coyote in a cheaper model until you get used to thermal.
The trail xq 38 is as low as I would go for coyote hunting in Iowa. You would be very happy with it to start. Then the addiction will follow

I'm in SW IA, just south of Council Bluffs if you are ever in the area. I can show you an Apex 38, Trail XQ50, and a Trijicon MK2.

That will give you a feel of what they look like if you haven't been able to look through any of those yet.

I'm in NW Iowa. Will have my thor4 384 4.5-18 by next Tuesday if you're close and want to check it out. Also have an atn x sight 4k pro forsale
