Thermal hunting and one big boar

guess

New member
A couple of my friends from EOTech came in to hunt hogs last week. We hunted fields and some feeders. I don't hunt feeders much not patient enough to watch them. Checking them with thermal and moving on is too cool. We got a good start on the first night. the first place we checked had a group of hogs milling around some cattle. We waited till they left the cows and JB shot three of them. See the skunk closer to us.

We moved to another area and checked a feeder that belongs to some deer hunters that want the hogs gone. There was a bachelor group of boars at that feeder. JB shot the biggest first and got the second on the run.

Then we spotted this guy, we knew he was big but not this big! Ed dropped him with one shot. He weighs well over 300 and had 3.25 inch cutters.

This ended the first night. Night two we didn't see hogs anywhere. It was considerably hotter and they just weren't moving good. We finally found 3 under a feeder Ed dropped one of them.

We moved a couple of miles and checked another feeder. There was another huge boar under it. Michelle was to shoot this one with JB's gun. She steadied for the shot and click! We reloaded{we thought} and click. The hog never heard us! JB walked back to the truck and checked the rifle, DUD! That's why I use Hornady, no duds! He came back and Michelle tried again. SHE MISSED! In her defense we were 30 yards farther out than we thought, new gun, shook up by now and her first time using the thermal device. That boar better look out. She knows he exists now.
We had visitors at the truck when we got back to it.

pretty much, I ran the camera most of the time. EOTech has been great to work with and they are good people and have been vary good to my family. They don't get to hunt like I do so I try to put them on the critters when they come to town.

I think the "cheap" ones start at $14,000.00 and go up. Sad thing is many are not available to the public.

Maybe's it not so sad. If they were readily available, I'd need a second mortgage to get one!

Good going on the hogs Glenn.
