Thermal monocular question....

I'm needing a thermal monocular that will allow me to identify pigs out to about 500-600 yards. I don't need to be able to see high quality imigages I just need to be able to see them to know they are there. I will get the wind right and walk up on them and shoot them with a regular light. Any recommendations for something less than $1000?
 
I think your budget and your range don't match. From what I can read, you are looking at something in $3K-$4K range like a HD38A or HD50A to do what you want to at 500-600 yds. I have seen deer "specs" at 500 yds with a $2K HD19A but no way to tell pigs from deer for me at that range.

You need to add another "0" to your budget. Even on the low end, for that realistic distance of 500-600 you need a 38A and that puts you over $2k a bit. Even then...yes you will pick up heat at that distance, but you will spend more time walking up on things that aren't hogs than you will shooting at hogs.
 
No way in heck that Leupold LTO will do anything for you at 500-600 yards with a 160 core. Regardless of their claim, it's not happening and current reviews are reflecting that. You'll pick up a target at maybe 150-200 and ID inside 50 yards. That's coming from guys who either have it or putting their hands on it right now at Shot Show.

Correct!

I use an IRPatrol M250 and I have a 2x and a 3x Multiplier lenses (Rarely use either).

Like a said above to the OP - buy once and cry once.....
