I'm kinda in the same boat, and have the 640 Phenom as well, & have absolutely no reason to sell it and "upgrade".

However, I have been eyeballing the iRay Zoom:

I have an Axion 2 XG35 640...love the size and battery option but don't care for the 2.5x . The sensor is nowhere near the quality of my Trail XP50...I use the Trail as a scanner over 90% of the time. Its a bit bulky but no big deal and the 1.6 is perfect fow wide FOV and still being able to ID coyotes with no issues out past 700...so that being said...a cheap older Trail XP50 or a new Helion 2 Pro.

Yes, it does. I did see the Telos coming out before I bought, but saved a good sum on the Helos, so I bought it anyway. Like most, I only use it for detection; after that, I'm going to the scope for ID.

I run the FLIR Scout III-640, and it’s great. Even my untrained girlfriend can run it, and identify the difference between cows and deer/elk at several hundred yards. I got a great deal on it through Adorama, and only paid about $1200 for it.

I use a Pulsar Axion XM30f. It has a base mag of 3x with a 320 resolution. The scanner fits in one hand. It is light, maneuverable, and holds a charge all night. I paid about $1650 after tax.

I would not want a scanner with anything over 2.5x base mag.

1.5-1.75x Base mag would be even better.

I dont know why these thermal companies make Scanners with a base mag over 2x or 2.5x.

I want lower power and more Field of View!

I’ve always use Pulsar, started with a Quantum many years ago, moved to Helions now I use a Telos. Pulsar units arn‘t the cheapest but they have never let me down, they’re reliable, good image, long battery life, easy to use etc.

Ditto on the Pulsar XP28. I to have no idea why they discontinued these. Also have a XP 50 but do 98% of my scanning with the 28. Only options for this is the iRay zoom ZH28 with dual capabilities. Same FOV as 28 at base and then zoom up to XP 50 specs. Other option would be the Flir Scion or something from ATN but wouldn't recommend them.

I have been running a helium 2 xp50 pro was really liking it till it crapped out on me last week couldn’t get it to focus in trued everything sent it back we will see in a couple days what’s going on I guess
