Thermal scope on shotgun, Apex ammo TSS #2 shot

Good luck shooting running coyotes with that setup. With your head on the stock your eye will be well below the scope.

Even a 50 yard standing shot could be difficult with that setup if you didn't use the tri-pod.
 
THANK YOU Slick! I've threatened my 6 year old that he'll be disowned if he keeps saying ki-oh-tee. I've even threatened that he can't go hunting with me anymore but it's stuck in his head. Hope he's better at golf than I was...
 
I am not sure that your point of impact will change if your head is not on the stock, will it? I would expect that you would have to sight it in like a rifle, at a particular distance.

Seeing the height of the Scope made me think that it would help you avoid a lot of face slap with the stock, but I don't know till I shoot one. That shotgun looked like it was beating the heck out of that guy, kicked a LOT! Reminded me of a 458 Winchester that I shot once.

He has very little cheek weld. That makes mounting the gun and getting your eye consistently behind the scope more difficult. That slows down acquiring the the target. Especially so a fast mover in thick cover. It can also give you a pretty good chop to the jaw.
 
2-1/4 oz of shot through a Rem 870 would be more recoil than I would want to shoot.

1-1/2 oz of TSS #4 shot or TSS #3 shot have high enough pellet counts for killing coyotes. That extra 3/4 oz of shot would cost about $2.10 more per shell if you are reloading them and getting the TSS shot for $45.00 per pound.

There are 100 TSS #3 shot pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
There are 124 TSS #4 shot pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
There are 122 TSS #2 shot pellets in 2-1/4 oz.

With 1 pound of TSS shot you can get 10.6, 1-1/2 oz loads or 7.1, 2-1/4 oz loads per pound of shot.

just got it setup yesterday.
Will post pics and info after I pattern it.
 
I have shot a lot of coyotes at night, when hunting in Mexico. Ithaca 10g semi auto was the gun of choice, name was "moose Dick". WE wold split up in two teams at nigh, on with a team with a rifle with the other with the other Ithaca. We did no Thermal but no none had though of it.

So, we used dark red lens powderful aircraft landing lights. A sroud on the end of the light had s a trigger on it, so, pulling the trigger goes form red light to white. We wanted mo more than 100,000 candle power, and had other lights with 78K and 30K for really tight shooting places

We looked for eyes, then called for the burn if needed for the shooter.

Depth perception at night is difficult at brest, so expect to shoot bunch of shells till you get the hang of it.
