The “Squatter Hunter,” whose real name is Flash Shelton, has become known for literally moving into homes occupied by squatters and making life uncomfortable for them until they leave. He then helps return the property to its rightful owner.
According to People Magazine, he first came up with his unusual approach after squatters moved into his mother’s home in Northern California. Instead of waiting for the long eviction process, he decided to move in himself and make life so uncomfortable for the squatters that they chose to leave.
According to CBS News, Shelton protects himself legally by having property owners sign a lease that gives him the right to occupy the home. Once inside, he uses everyday tactics like blasting music, taking over the couch, eating their food, and generally disrupting their comfort. He also wears tactical gear and carries non-lethal weapons such as pepper spray and a stun gun to stay safe.
