Think I got stung at a gunshow with an Eotech.

Need some advice.

I supposedly bought a 557NV from a dealer in the last day of an Arkansas gun show. I got it home and then tried to look it over and the buttons on the sight weren't adjusting the settings like my bushnell models did.

In fact, the sight has all 3 buttons for Up, down and NV on the back facing the shooter. It's fine if I got an older model, but the only way that I can turn it on is by holding the up button, then pushing the NV button.

The brightness controls do not work at all. Once the unit is on, "Up" doesn't brighten it, nor does "Down" lower the brightness. Then NV will turn it off, I hit NV again and it comes back on. On the back panel, it does show to turn it on, hold down the Up and down arrow buttons but that doesn't work.

It goes completely off when NV is pushed, I verified this with my NV scope by looking through it at night when pushed.

I have tried to contact repair at L3 and got no callback or anything. Sent 3 e-mails to them and got the same back, nothing.

Another weird thing is that the thing doesn't have a model on it anywhere, just a label under the bottom on the unit that shows to be a serial number of "187877" and manufactured in 2005. On the side, it is marked "For Law Enforcement/Military Use"

How do I tell what model I really got, the manuals on the web are totally different layout and nothing seems to match according to the buttons action.

Any ideas on how I can get this thing fixed?

Thanks
Chris.

I know that EOTech has had some counterfeiting go on with their products. Usually, that means that the fake Rolex won't work as well a the real one.
It could be you have one of those.
I'd pack it up, and send it in to them, first.

Or, try sending John Bailey an e-mail.
He'll get to the bottom of it for you.

Hope this helps.

I'd try calling them again... I had to send mine in last month with a question and had no problem...came back in 10 days at no charge..

I'll try again to contact them. From the research I have done, I think this is a real Eotech, but the problems sure make me think something is wrong.

Are there any model numbers on yours from the retail models?

I'll get it worked out, and I don't mind paying a little for the repairs, but too much and I will end up paying more than new.

Mine is the basic 512 without the night vision factor...There is a serial number on the bottom of it...I sent them an e-mail and followed up with a phone call the next day and got a return authorization...The original box has a styrofoam insert and I sent the whole shebang to them..

Okay, here's what's on my 512 (not an NV).
Bottom back,(behind the cross-bar) a black sticker with white text:

CE (in a white square)
Manufactured in the U.S.A. by EOTech, Inc. 3600 Green Court.
Suite 400. Ann Arbor, MI 48105

Complies with 21 CFR Chapter 1, Subchapter J

Manufactured Date: January 2007

To the right of cross-bar, another white-on-black sticker:

English
7/64 inch Only
(White circle with "Metric" and a slash through it)
Serial number running bottom to top, black on white: 3044XX

Quote:You did put a new battery in it?

If the battery is low, the reticle will flash on start-up. Still, that may be worth trying, but I'd be amazed if it changed anything.

You've got to push in on those buttons pretty hard. You can feel a "click", but you've got to push harder to get contact. Jam it as hard as you can. it's won't break (if it's really an EOTech). I'm thinking you got burned, from the description you gave.

Well, thanks for all the help guys. Something weird is going on with it, but it is working now. Just to try it again, I used some Duracell procell batteries and put them in, same result. Tried another set but somehow got them in backwards. Since it wouldn't turn on at all, I corrected that, and then it started working correctly. Put the first set in and they worked correctly.

Surely this thing wasn't "stuck".. Never the less, it is functioning correctly with brightness adjustements now.

I did notice in the manual that the night vision abilities were for Gen 2 and up. My scope was a Gen 1. Wouldn't I have still been able to see something if it was working correctly?

Evil_lurker:
That sure looks like it. And the controls seem to match up as well.

Maybe, if you had the intensity all the way up. You get a LOT more light multiplication with Gen II,III than Gen I.
Can you use the non-NV setting on low without washing out your NV?

Hey, it's weird it suddenly started working, but that's sure a good thing. Glad you didn't get burned.

Yeah, they have so many models you kinda need to remember their coding. I remembered that model when you described it.

Which NV system are you using?

I had ATN Mk410, but I just traded it for some other gear. I am going to get some Gen3 if I can swing it later in the year.

I heard that all that was going to come down pretty soon and make it more availible. I hope that is the case.
