Think I'm going to 'retire' my 44 mag.

The Million dollar question is the 44 mag that probably never had (or will have) a firing issue retired?

This thread reminds me of why I bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag in the 1st place! (Reliability) I think over all its a cool upgrade, although I couldn't get myself to do it on a new 1911! I do wish my 45 had a bit more oomph, but it fires so well I can't get myself to change anything.

YEP...not much risk of malfunction here.

I was unloading some diesel fuel in a WV strip mine yesterday... I saw a momma bear and 3 cubs, very near my truck.

She didn't bother me, but if she had wanted to, I think I would have wanted my my Super Blackhawk handy, just to be on the safe and sure side.

No updates, still waiting on the new mags to show up. The folks at clarks said they were back ordered, appears they were right

But I talked to the distributor, they shipped monday so I should see them today or tomorrow. Which will work well enough, I'm going to the range this week to sight in my 25-06. Antelope season is just around the corner!

More detailed to follow, but quick and dirty.

Act Mags showed up today, feeding problem solved. Weather and work conspired to limit what I could do, but I snuck out for 1/2 hour to run some rounds. Windy as all get out and spitting rain, I got tired of standing my target stand back up so no accuracy report. I'm beyond rusty with a pistol, but until I gave up on the target grouping was pretty decent. After that I just ran rounds into the hillside to check brass.

I did 3 loads from min to max using longshot powder and standard pistol primers. 230gr xtp's loaded as long as I can get to work in the magazine, they could probably go a bit deeper and smooth out the mag feed a bit. I did probably 50 rounds in short order. None showed any signs of pressure. It did show that I need to fix the ejector timing on my pistol, no surprise there and the case mouths can be fixed

Ejection is up there, I'll be looking for 1/2 dozen brass next time I'm out there. I ran out of time so there's a few in the field. On the + side I found a box of .308 brass to make up for it.

I had regular FTF with the 1st round if the mag was fully loaded. Taking it down to 6 rounds solved that problem, I assume it will smooth out once the mags break in. The mags that go through clarks have a stiffer spring than what you get straight through ACT, might be the reason. Beyond the 1st round on a full mag it fed well.

Even with max loads, it's pleasant to shoot. The combo of the suppressor and heavy spring pull a whole lot of energy out of the recoil. If I had to guess I can probably do 2 rounds in the same amount of time I can do a similar load in 44mag. I'll do a comparison next time out and see how fast I can run it. I'll take out one of my .45's also to compare recoil. If the .460 is worse than the .45, it's not by much.

I doubled up on ears, plugs and muffs, and I hate muffs. But the amount of energy I'm assuming is coming up out of that comp I think it's a good way to go. I might change later and go to straight plugs.

I'll be tweaking the pistol before too long, it had timing issues out of the box. It's pretty common with the GI model from what I've read but since it was a shelf queen I never saw the need.

If long term is as good as short term testing, I'm pretty pleased with the combo.

I think this might be the coolest 1911 option running! Would love to see for myself how that things shoots. Let use know when you've had a good day at the range with it.

No updates for a while. I managed to destroy my left hand today, stitches won't be out for a few weeks.

Lake accident, not firearm related

Got my 1st stitches ever, I usually just use duct tape to reattach limbs, but this was a bit beyond it's magical properties.

Sorry to hear that...

I agree, duct tape is good.

But maybe not the fix all for everything.

Walt Kowalski says duct tape, WD-40, and vice grips can fix most everything... (maybe the vice grips would have worked?)...

I use crazy glue on cuts. Have had stitches in my lip, next to my eye, both hands,.... Just pull them out yourself when you think you are good to go. No need to go back to the Dr.....

[beeep], I've got insurance for a reason. I've taped pretty much every serious cut, but this time took my finger pretty much in 1/2 from palm to tip clear to the bone. Took about 1 second inspection to decide this needed stitches or I'd lose the finger. Never had stitches before but seen them done. Definitely a reason I prefer to operate on myself. Those numbing shots are so much worse than the injury. Plus I'm almost immune to any 'cane based painkiller so I got to go through the shots more than once.

I took my project boat out for it's first test run, turns out the rubber hub between engine and outdrive melted down. I made it about 1/2 way across the lake towards the ramp before it came apart completely and I was left to drift. After finally beaching I walked my daughter back to the truck and the wife before I hiked back and started the push to the ramp.

About 10 minutes in and I slipped, ripped my finger apart. A bit of cussing as I inspected, then pulled my shirt and did a compression bandage to keep the bone from coming out and back to pushing for another 45 minutes.

Wife about threw up and passed out when she saw the wound. Good stuff.

Sausage finger for a while. But if you look at the index between 1st 2 knuckles you can see the scar from a hunting knife slip. Took it about 50 percent around to the bone, nicked both tendons and 3 days from civilization. Paper towel and duct tape, still works fine

Stitches came out today but about 20% to normal, excluding the fact that if you splint a finger straight for 2 weeks it locks up and you can't really bend it. I've got steri-strips holding the base of the finger together but a couple weeks and I should have use back. Probably pretty tender for a couple months, but hunting season is upon me in a couple weeks so it will have to do.

As far as OT, I've got plenty of ammo put together just waiting for testing.

i read that if you fire the 460 rowland without the muzzle brake the recoil and presssure will shoot the slide off the frame

Ah, come on. After keeping us on the bleachers for all this time you can't just give in.

Chop that finger off and give us a range report.

Seriously, I've got an older 1911 that needs some work anyhow. This might change the parameters.
