This sounder of wild pigs had been hitting a local cattle rancher's protein feeders. The pigs would come in almost nightly and raid the expensive feed costing the rancher time refilling the feeders and money buying more feed. This is one of many examples why feral hogs are primarily a nuisance animal, and need to be managed accordingly.
 
I always go for the biggest hog. If you are trying to reduce damage/amount of feed eaten, why would you shoot the littlest pig?

It sounded like the bullets were tinging off the feeder.

It is not just the feed competition that the ranchers are worried about. Feral pigs also carry and can transmit several diseases that are extremely detrimental to a cow herd and its productivity. The recent Farm Bill has allocated a substantial amount of money to eradicating feral hogs in a lot of areas from what I am hearing.

But, I would have lined them up in that feed trough and skewered about 4-5 of them 0n the first shot with my MP10 .308 with 180GR GS's.
Someone needs to patch the holes in the feeder or gate tubing. Bang-Ting!
Which ATN Thermal were ya'll using?? A 640?

The next night there was a legit 390 lb boar killed on this place. Weighed with cattle scales.
Seriously, I think the small shot was for a pig to go on the smoker. I'm the same way though, go for biggest pig. I was on video/safety duty when these 2 were taking shots.

That's correct, 308 casings on steel fence posts. Might have actually been the gate.
