Thoughts on 222rem. Mag Have a rare chance to pick one up EDIT:It came home

Baron, they only made that 700 in 222 mag with the 20 inch barrel the first year or maybe the first two years of production for the 700, 1962.
 
I have two Remington Model 722's chambered in 222 Rem Magnum.
Both are very accurate, and they are fun shooting as recoil is light.
Here are a couple of targets I shot with one of these rifles last Summer.

Groups were shot at 100 yards. Nothing was done to the rifle other than cleaning it good, and adjusting the trigger to 2 1/2 pound pull.


5 shot group at 100 yards with Nosler Factory 222 Mag ammo. The Red Dot is 1" in diameter.

Three shot groups at 100 yards. All shooting was with a Weaver V-16 set at 16x.

Wow very nice groups glad to see they are shooters! Yeah Baron I do love the oddballs the 225 is on my hit list as well if I ever see one. My only concern with this gun is marking up the stock which is for the most part blemish free so gonna be babying it a bit lol may try and find another stock for it while out hunting. Do the 700 stocks fit the 722 or is it a different monster altogether ?

I have not installed a 700 stock on a 722. But, what I read about doing it is there has to be a mod done in the area of the safety.. ???

I had 2 .222's that I paid less than 400 a piece for.Not magnums but I would also say that the 800 is a bit high.I wish I still had the old 722 that I sold real nice shooter and real easy on the shoulder for newer shooters.I would get a .223 if you are set on a quarter bore because ammo is cheap and that has the same ballistics as the .222 mag.

My brother has the 223 and I have a 222 Mag
we go groundhog hunting as much as possible. I choose my 222 Mag over my brother's 223 anyday.I have someone who makes the ammo for me get rounds.
I hit a groundhog 350 yards out he was a big boy that I couldn't get a shot off the year prior. He stood up in the soybean I had in my sights he was eating standing up I told my brother has he watching him!! Joe I'm going to shot him between the eyes. Nope hit him we walk down to were I got him figured has big as he was the bullet would drop in somewhere. Got him right throw the mouth.

Mag over that 223
 
Congratulations on your Rem 722 222 mag! I have owned two 722's in 222 Rem. Sold one and the one I have now is in 98+% condition. My first one was a plan stock and bolt but the one I have now is checkered and with a jeweled bolt. I cannot remember what Remington called it, a classic, premium or something like that. It shoots 1 hole groups and is an absolute joy to shoot. I have several loads I have worked up for it over the years and everything seems to shoot really well in it.
I can tell you I would not even look at selling mine, let alone for $400 dollars.
