Thoughts on a Remote Control Decoy

I've been wanting to build a remote control decoy of sorts and would like to hear the input of others about it.

I want to buy an inexpensive RC 4x4 Truck, attach my Icotec e-caller to it and cover the entire setup with a simulated fur. The idea is to set up where at a hidden shooting location, then run the RC truck out into the field and then turn on the e-caller. Driving it around in circles or moving it back and forth to attract the attention of a coyote.
This type of decoy would accomplish 2 things:
1. I don't have to leave my position of concealment.
2. It would provide the usual sounds and decoy movement to attract their attention off of my location.

In Your Opinion: What are the pros and cons on this type of a setup?

Had I not done some research on RC trucks, I might have not known what you were referring to, but I've looked up the Traxxas and it's only $999. I'd buy another rifle, before I'd spend that kind of cash on an RC. :sneaky: Besides....I'm sure I'd get busy running it around, forget to shoot the coyote and try to outrun it with the Traxxas. :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like a fun experiment. You would need to hunt in a mowed or heavily grazed pasture so it could move and be seen.

Anyone remember the cowmobile

Years ago I made a remote controlled rabbit decoy but it didn't move around other than it's leg would cycle back and forth. That seemed to be enough as every time a coyote saw it twitch they'd let their guard down and run right at it. If it wasn't such a pita to deal with (carry, batteries....) I'd still use it. If you plan to use yours like an RC truck I think you'll be frustrated with it getting stuck in either tall grass or snow.

I'm inclined to agree with you about the frustrations of the RC truck getting stuck. However, most of the fields that I hunt are cut soy bean fields, which wouldn't be a problem. I'd stay away from the picked corn fields, as there would be too many obstacles of corn stalks laying in the rows to cause issues.

As for the snow, I don't hunt in more than a couple of inches of snow around here, because it melts and freezes too much and makes for a very noisy approach. đźš« As much fun as this project might be, I'm very serious about killing the coyotes and not educating them. I've had good success using my MOJO Critter along with my Icotec e-caller, thus far and I'd like to continue doing so. This RC idea is still in the thought process.

Ooh another idea! Traxxas with a stun gun for coyote hunting. Get em in close with the caller on wheels then run em down.

I can't believe this, just today I am working on the EXACT same thing. I bought some actual pelts off EBAY over a year ago and a RC truck from Walmart at the same time.
I Finally did a gun room cleanup today after (15 years) and mocked it up. My plan is this, run it out there, bump it along in spurts. make it look easy to catch and wounded Then if I get a "bite" I make it come back my way. Only issue I envision is it is a little loud, my plan is just bump it along and let the sound from the caller override that fact.
One thing for sure I'm going to have a BALL playing with my dogs, having out there and ready when I take them out, bumping it to catch their eye then running when they charge, then turn it and chase THEM with it LOL.
I'll post pictures when I'm done, maybe a video.
I can't believe the coincidence of the timing!
P.S. I do not intend to put the call on it, it would make it too top heavy. All I want it for is to catch their attention and make it look like a sure thing. I don't envision running all over the place, just bump it along to catch their eye, move it a little bit at a time giving me the little bit of time I need to close the deal.

Just get a FoxPro X360 e-caller. I think it has 4 wheel drive and doubles as a trolling motor for those flooded bean fields. You can program the remote so it transforms the caller to everything from a field mouse to an elephant.

It costs more than a Traxxas and it’s weight is closer to an elephant than a field mouse, but you can weigh all the coyotes with the remote when you’re done.

Oh… invest in a flatbed trailer to get the caller to the field and get the coyotes out of the field.

But seriously, good luck with your project. Sounds like a fun thing to try. Not something I think is necessary, but look forward to seeing how it turns out and works out for you.

I know it's just a novelty item, I only have $50 in the idea. I'll pay that just to see the reaction that my dogs have! I doubt I'll use it much hunting but I might in a big open setting like a cow pasture. I'll know more once I see how my dogs react. I think the coyotes might be more willing to close the distance if they see dinner out there. We'll see.
