Thoughts on Ruger American Predator/6.5CM

Let me have it. All the good and bad. I know the stocks are borderline junk going in but thats an easy fix. I'm looking at using it for a Whitetail rifle and if it shoots maybe a little long range shooting (for fun). My first experience with the Ruger American wasn't very good but thought I might try once more.

I am waiting for Ruger to decide to make the American Predator in left hand. The ballistics of the 6.5 CM are outstanding for whitetail hunting. Something about the long skinny bullets that keep penetrating. Nothing magic, just great efficiency with load data for duplicating factory loads provided by Hornady.

I have the 22-250 and the 6.5 Creedmore. Have the Ranch in a 223. All of them are outstanding shooters. The 6.5 is shooting just under 2" groups at 300 yards with factory ammo.

What factory ammo are you using for the 6.5cm? Thx in advance.

Is it still all factory or have you made any modifications??

It was the Hornady 140 gr Amax. I am going to start reloading now that I have brass and will try the Sierra 142 gr.

It is still in factory condition. I have done nothing with it.

I bought the Ruger American 22lr for my daughter and it is a good shooter. The bolt doesn't lock which drives me crazy because when you're hunting everything opens the bolt and you lose a round. Not sure if the Predator series bolts lock or not but to me it is a very aggravating issue.

The 6.5 Creed in the Predator is wonderful and very accurate. Factory fodder shoots as well as handloads in most rifles. The only modifications to the rifle was drop in a Timney trigger.

Here is a load that I found a lot of people using with the 140gr AMax and H4350. I seated them to mag length and fired five shots to get on paper and here is shots 6,7 and 8.

Played with the Bergers and here is my first three shots @ 200yds using the same charge of H4350 as above and 140gr Berger Hunting VLD

My son with his first two deer killed this past year using the Predator and factory 140gr AMax.

My first RAR was a used 223. It was a nightmare, but a short one as I sold it to a gunsmith. (And I did make him aware of the problems I was having. I also took a bath on that one.) So, I have heard the good, any bad you want to share???

No brake just a Troy Industry flash hider. I put it on there just to protect the crown.
I purchased a SAS Reaper MX and I'm using the TOMB system Talon flash hider for my Predator and my custom 6.5 Creed so I can easily switch my can from one rifle to the other.

I have four of the rar's, the 6.5cm is new and i'm just starting to reload for it. The groups are as good as you see here and on line. So far using three, three shot groups at 100yds the first two of each group were .397, .289, .222. I pulled the third round of each group as much as i hate to say it. It does show what the rifle will do if i do my part.

I have had tremendous accuracy with Winchester 140grain Match and the new Hornady Precision in 143grain.

2" high at 100yds is dead on at 200yds.

And it sounds like you need to call Ranger Walker or miss Karen at SAS for a couple new Tomb breaks.

The only issue i have come across with my four is on the 6.5cm, all the triggers on the ruger Americans have thread locker on the trigger adjustment screw. This one didn't so as i was shooting it, it was changing trigger pull.
I have readjusted the trigger to 3 lbs. and will try it tomorrow.
That's the only problem i have had with any of them. (i did slide down a wet rocky hill side on the .243 stock and scope and after cleaning the mud out of the barrel, i went to the range and it was still dead on, works for me.)

As a side note you can go to ar15.com then to the precision rifle section and find some good reviews of it there which is interesting since the precision people there are very picky on what they like.

Took the plunge. Bought a NIB Ruger Pred for $399 and tax of course. Put a Nikon 4-12 on it for glass. I sold all my 6.5 stuff so I'm going to shoot factory fodder in it for a while. My main issue right now is the stock rubs the barrel on the left side pretty good. I'll need to address this.

Changed my mind and put a Burris on the CM. Put the Nikon on the 20P.

My buddy had the same issue with one in .204. He dropped it into a Boyds and bedded it. Slick and fully free floated now.
