Tikka T-3 or Rem. 700

My experience is limited as I have only owned 1 of each, but I wouldn't trade a Tikka for a sack full of Remingtons. Rack the bolt once and you'll be sold on the Tikka. Mine was much, much more accurate out of the box than the 700.
 
I have a lot of Remingtons and like most of them. I have also owned a Tikka Varmint in 22-250 and a T-3 in 243. They both shot extremely well. With no mods, afraid I would lean towards the Tikka. I don't care for the plastic mags but then again, I never had a problem with them either.
 
I have had a fair number of both and prefer the Tikka, out of the box accuracy, Smooth operation, nice easily adj trigger, quiet convenient safety. inline removable magazine,
Aftermarket parts are becoming more available with some nice examples posted here before.
 
Look in the classifieds, you don't see a lot of Tikka's for sale. Yes I know that there a lot more Remington's in use and I own a few of them, I use to consider myself a Remington person thru and thru but when the tikka t3 lite became available and I bought my first one my preference changed. Typically a tikka needs no load work-up to find something it shoots good. I am a hunter not a paper puncher (no offence) and these guns flat out
shoot right out of the box. My first I bought the first year they became available and I have never looked back. I now recommend these to any who ask "what would you buy".
 
Wow ! Not what I expected , but I'm pleasantly surprised. I really like the Tikka . I was hoping to here good things about it . Thanks for the comments .
 
I'll say 700. All of mine have been moa or better. Also prefer the true short action of the 700. I personally don't care for a detachable mag as found on the t3. The t3 does have a better stock trigger. I say shoulder both and pick the one that feels better.
 
Tikka all day long.... I've owned both and still own both. Everything about the tikka is smoother and the tikka trigger can be adjusted down to as light as one would want. A lot of guys are now starting to use tikka actions for custom budget builds, oh and did someone say they just flat out shoot...
 
Tikka hands down. I have two T3's now and wish my Rem 700 .308 was one as well. Super accurate, shoots any ammo well, awesome trigger, actions are true enough to not need work if rebarreling, great trigger, and plenty of aftermarket parts. Tikkas are all I will buy from now on.

You sure don't see many customs being built off of tikka actons. I agree they are slick and shoot well.

I would do so some serious investigation to find out how long the throats are in Tikka's, as they use CIP (European standards) vs SAAMI standards and leades can run long in some rifles. I would not want a rifle that is throated for a 160g round nose bullet like some of the rifles are throated for.

I am just saying, look before you leap. Plastic magazines are a real turn off, and the drop floor plate on a Rem 700 is good to go.

Boyd's makes really nice replacement stocks for both, investigate their fine checkering.
 
I have one Tikka and a bunch of Remingtons. My Tikka is a compact in 223. It shot very well out of the box, but so have most of my Remingtons. The Tikka handled extremely good and fit me perfectly, but so have most of my Remingtons. The Tikka has a very slick working action, something that I can't say is found on many of the newer Remingtons. the Tikka had a very nice trigger, while Remington triggers can sometimes be hit or miss. I don't like the Tikka's long action for short cartridges, which is something you won't find Remington doing. I also dislike the Tikkas plastic magazine, though while I'm not a huge fan of detachable magazines, it's really not all that bad. With all that being said, while I would buy another Tikka, I will always look at Remingtons first.
