If true then Ruger had their chance and passed. There are also many rumors and internet speculations that a ruger would have been 1/3 the cost. I highly doubt that after meeting all the specs and working with Colt that a comparable Ruger would have been that cheap, afterall a Tikka CTR and several others are 1/3 the money or less too.
Life must be tough having to settle for a gun in .308 that will shoot 1/2 in groups and function at -50.
Sako was able to successfully work with Colt and build copies in Finland to market for less money. This makes easy sense when cutting out one extra manufacturer.
Gun companies marketing rifles manufactured by another is nothing new.
