Timney trigger on remington 788

Well I got rid of my 10lb trigger on my $80.00 remington mod 788, best $95.00 I spent on that gun. Its a .223 that I shot some nice small groups with, considering the heavy trigger pull. I just hope that the small groups are easier to come by. After getting the trigger on, I had to remove a little wood and reseal the stock. Its going to seem like a different gun.

My oh my oh my oh my! For TEN years I have been hearing that the ONLY reason that I am always outshooting you with my guns is because you had a "turrable" trigger and once you got that fixed you would be showing me a think or two. Wellsir! I am taking my new .223 Ackly to the range on friday to work up some loads so why dont you just bring that garage sale reject of yours along and we just see what the better shooter is. And you jest leave all the belly achin' at home too. Dang, but I hear it all. Bad knees, bad back, cut your trigger finger off on the band saw at work. I do NOT care that they could not reattach it even. You got more fingers and you should have been more careful is all I can say. Next time eat your lunch in a safer place.

And did not 204Dude and I find you that nice Savage (that you call "Salvage") for a nice price? And the fire it had been in had not been all that hot, and besides we put that barrel under the floor jack and it pretty much straightend right up. If you didnt know where to look you never seen it. Yet you still complain that we did not do enough to find you a good shooting gun. Some people, I swear.

So you need to get your boney butt to the range on Friday and we just find us out how well that gun of yours shoot now. And if it dont shoot as good as you want it to, remember- I am your friend. I will give you back the $80 you lost on that gun and we just go on over to Taco Bell and I get you an order of nachos on me. How's that sound? Deal?

That's a good question, 788s are generally great rifles and a terrific value especially at 80 bucks.

Huh. I will TELL you how it did it. Poor old widow woman was trying to sell it for enough money to get her pain pill perscription filled so she would not pass out in pain trying to get some wood chopped to make her late husband a simple cross for his grave. It was Elmer Keith's old rifle that was engraved by non other than King Edward's personal jeweler. It had a $8000 price tag on it and that low dog picked it up with his thumb covering the last two "00"s so it looked that the price tag said $80. The cashier wernt none the wiser and old "Who, Me?" got away with a fine rifle for 1% what it was supposed to sell for. Yahsee, that was how he got that name. He be walking down the road and someone would hollar out "Hey you low life chicken stealin beer drinking woman chasing gun shootin sorry excuse for a varmint!" and then he would turn around and he would say. "Who, ME?" and the name stuck. And that was family too. Others starting calling him that soon after. He even got fond of it it seems. Was going to even used it for his school picture but they wouldnt let him. Said a 17 year old had no buisness in a kindergarten glass anyway.

So THAT'S how it got it. He a real lowlife let me tell you. Got to be where only his sister loves him. Well, her and his wife. Well wait- they one and the same anyhow, aint they?

Boy Rustydust aren't your fingers tired yet. I know your hands are stronger since the wife went thru menopause but jeeze.

Congrats Who Me. You have been talking about that timney trigger for a looooonnnnnnggggg time. Everyone here is proud of you. But you know now you have no excuses for not shooting 1/4 inch all day long.

Wow, well I bought a high standard double nine for 80.00 and at best was about a 125.00 gun, real rough. I ran into a old guy that bought that 788 new around 1976 for a little over 100.00. Well it was his idea to trade strait up, his gun had seen little use. It even came with a 3x9 sportview bushnell that I sold in a yard sale for 10.00 or was it 15.00 I forget now. I have had better luck with that 788 than I have had with my salvage mod 12 FV, that Rustydust told me I would love. I spend more time working up loads for that salvage than I do shooting it. I guess I'll start warming my middle tigger finger up for friday and rehearse some new excuse's. Oh I did try to buy that 788 before he came to me, asking if I had a .22 pistol that I would want to trade for his gun. No way was I going to trade him my 40.00 ruger single six with both cly. that is in 95 percent cond.

Hey 204Dude, I can't do anything all day long unless its wasting time which I'm darn good at. I bought that trigger two years ago, what a ball of fire huh.

Heck, I was being NICE. You outta hear how people that don't like him talk about him.

All in all, he an OK guy though. Been married to the same woman for a lot of years. Good kids, good grand kids. Had the same job nearly all his life. Likes to hunt and fish and shoot whistlepigs with his buddies.

He just cant seem to find any good friends that are any count. Guess that the problem I have with him. Oh, and he thinks it is SO FUNNY to outshoot his "friends" on occasion, even with their own guns.

Maybe he is OK. Darned if I ever tell him that though.

who me,

I'll be pullin' for you to shoot the PANTS off your friends .......... some 788 envy!!!!!!

My 788 wears a Canjar single set ....... you think release and it happens!

A better trigger will help you raise percentages on those good groups ....... keep us posted!!!

Three 44s

Well the pressure is on, thanks for the support three 44s. I sure hope it make it easier to shoot. A while back there was a thread about someone that had a trigger job gone bad. I hope he gets it fixed, 788 are not much to look at but they do seem to shoot well. Rustydust thanks for kind words, you almost make me sound like a dead beat. Same job, same wife same hobbies same friends.

Oh gosh no! I certainly did not mean for you to sound like a deadbeat! No, not at all.

I mean, after all, there is always hope that a deadbeat will someday be able to be a productive citizen.

Well that Timney trigger sure made that 788 easier to shoot. Too easy, I had to get use to no creep and not having that brick wall to break through . I put the trigger scale on it, 26 oz. Rustydust even shot a couple of small groups with it. He knows now that I don't need to borrow his guns to out shoot him. Just kidding
