Tin For Bullet Casting

When i use to cast bullets, I would use straight lead and lenotype (sp). Lenotype was the actual print used in old type presses from newspapers and such. Hard to find.

Another option that i found available was straight wheel weights. Would pick up a 5 gal bucket from the local tire shop.

Wheel wts are not all lead tin any more they use a lot of zinc and other heavy metals that alloy with lead. watch out for the magnetic WW's that stick on they have no lead or tin in them at all. Tin can be bought in 1 Lb bars it can usually be found at bullet casting supply houses that sell lead.

My dad still uses wheel weights. Never heard of magnetic wheel weights. Built a lot of racecars/custom cars, and was up until recently an ASE cet master technician. bunch of stick on wheel weights that use 3m double sided foam tape. Most rimless wheels that would use a stick on wheel weight are made of aluminum anyway. Not saying that they dont exist, just that I have never seen-heard of them. I agree with the wheelk weights, thats what dad always used, and in highschool i worked for a small bait manufacturing company, we used wheel weights too for our slab spoons.

Wheel weights are cheap if you can find a tire repair shop to sell them to you. A couple of hundred pounds last a good while.

You might check with some of the metal suppliers in the bigger cities. I used to buy from one place in Columbus, Ohio, when I lived there. I could get tin, antimony, virgin lead, and mixes of varying amounts. It's not going to be cheap though.

Old toothpaste tubes used to be a source of tin, but that changed as tin prices went up.

I get tin from John Walters of Walters wads right now he is selling pure tin for $12 lb, 50/50 bar solder is about $9 - $9.50 a lb.
Last time I bought tin I bought 100 lbs from John it was at $4 lb 3yrs ago. He will ship up to 10 lbs in a flatrate box for around $6 shipping you can pm me if you need more info.
