Tips on using mojo critter in frozen ground..........

Well yesterday the ground was like rock! So I was creative and just found a dead limb nearby and brought it to my stand in the open.I stuck the point threw the limb and about 1 inch or less in ground. In the woods all I ever do is find a stump or a old tree snag(kind that has a split and you pull that open slightly) about 3 ft high so animals can see it better.and I wedge the pointed rod into that split..If you force it in the frozen ground of course it will break.

The base is plastic! If you have the older critter like mine and it turns on in your pack just make 1 call to Mojo like I did to send you the 1 minute fix.

Ifthis post helps just 1 person I'm glad.I think for the money the Mojo critter is the best out there! First time I used it I called in 3 coyotes at one stand.

Oh yea my critter may be going bald as it was shedding pretty fast when I got it but it still works.

Made a collapsible stand that the Mojo rod goes into, it has four legs and collapses into a small bundle that I carry in my caller bag. One thing I learned is that the Mojo works best if it is in a straight up position. With the four legs( it spans about 14 in.) and can adjust to all shapes of ground and can be raised up to help clear ground cover. If you lengthen the rod it still should keep it from blowing over.

i got the idea from a member on here (I apologize for not remembering his name) and bought a music stand, took the top part off, put my critter in the tube and attached it (I did mine with electrical tape), added some paint, and voila, a portable, on top of the ground, height-adjustable, mojo critter. I also added a salt block holder to hold my scorpion. Works well.

I'd like to see yours though rifleman - sounds like a really good idea I could use.

The music stand sounds like a good idea, especially if you can keep the mojo vertical so it can spin fully around. Should have taken pictures as I assembled it out of oak pieces. Each leg has a wingnut that lets you adjust to all ground contours and lets it fold into a small package.

TNCrittergitter that was me. Here's a pic of the music stand with scorpion in the salt block holder. I've since wrapped the whole thing in camo material to better blend into the corn/bean/wheat fields I hunt.

I took a 12" 2x8 and screwed in a 2.5"long 3/8 lag bolt about half way. Then took a 1 ft piece of 1/2" sched 40 pvc that fits over the bottom of the mojo and the 3/8 lag bolt. Very sturdy and disassembles quickly to fit in my pack. Maybe $1.50 invested. I did buy two 1ft pieces of pvc. One stays white and the other I camoed.

I just use a piece of plywood small enough to fit in my pack, with a 1/4 - 20 carriage bolt in it. The wood is sprayed olive drab. If there is snow on the ground, I just cover it with a little snow. I also have a 1/4 - 20 eyebolt to hang it up side down on a branch. Didn't cost me anything, had the stuff laying around the house.

well we don't have frozen ground here but we got some hard stuff. i extended the spike by 2 feet with all thread, sharpened the crap out of the end. i keep a small mallet in my stool so i just unscrew it and pound in the stake then rescrew it on...simple. the rawhide mallet makes almost no noise so you are good. the mike stand is a great idea though.

I've started using one of these little plastic stakes that came with some solar yard lights (the little foot piece you stomp in the ground and put the actual light stake into). It's probably 4 inches long, a couple inches wide at top and tapers to a point at the bottom. The hole is the right size for the Mojo, it's small and light and it's worked awesome so far to keep it from tipping over.

Along with some of the suggestions above I placed a plastic zip tie through the slot aling the bottom edge of Critter body. I works great to hang the Critter upside down in a bush, tree or fence.

Yep!!! It was you. Again, I apologize for not remembering who I got it from, just knew I got it from someone here.

Thanks again for the idea. I love it, and the salt block holder works well.

I added one to another motion decoy I use, too.

Pulled mine out of the pack today to find the spike broken off. Must have broken in the pack as it was fine the last time I used it. I'd imagine that plastic gets pretty brittle in sub-zero temps.

Same frozen ground problem up here in N. ID. Borrowed my wife's portable camera bi-pod (with those little flexible legs you can bend and shape) screwed it into the bottom of the Mojo and it was good to go. K-Mart, Best Buy, all carry them and I believe they run about $20.

I am going to have to do some digging in my ATV'ing stuff. Somewhere I have a little collapsible camera stand that is about 8" long, you can extend the legs to almost 3'. Seems like I got it at Walmart for around $15. It should work like a champ with the 1/4" stud on the tripod, screw right in to the bottom of the mojo and be able to adjust for ground conditions. Probably weighs less than my little 2 X 4 of plastic decking that I currently use.

Heck, this will also do away with the 2 pieces of all-thread that I now carry to extend the decoy up above the grass.

I use a small tripod for my Critter. It works great. It gets the decoy a good 3' off the ground, so it is visible over brush. The legs are adjustable for uneven ground.
