tNew trapper seeking wisdom! what lures to use in tha east on coyote

Fox Gland Lure always worked for everything for me.. Fox, coon, possum, skunk.. just a little down the dirt hole caught everything...i didn't even use any bait what so ever...Start off with a trapping company # 1 designated fox lure... thats probably the one that got them started in the lure business and thats why they thought they would get into the business.

I always caught everything on this one and it's one of my favorites: paste this one into your computer to view..Again it catches everything..

Lure selection is always a gray area. I hate to list what I have had the best results with. To many differeant factors to list. Like said above most of the lure makes that have been around for yeas sell quality products. In addition several of the newer products are certainly quality material. I have just not had exposure to them. I use lure from many differant makers. A couple would be Russ Carman, Carol Black, Gary Jepson, Marty Smith and the list would go on for quite a while.
How may sets? That would depend on several factors. Weather, temperature, humidity and terrain. I smeer the lure on the backing or top lip of a dirt hole. When it is on the backing itself I cover it with natural material (leaf, tree bark. cow pie) from the area. This will extend the time it is putting out the aroma. On the average during fur season I use perhaps a teaspoon full at a set. I relure every five to seven days.
The most expensive way to use lure is not applying enough and it has to little or no attraction to the furbearer.

I agree with boxcar that Hawbakers Red Fox #100 is a good lure for fox and coyote. Also Hawbakers #500 is very good for fox and coyotes as well.I agree with Roy that I like to give the lure kind of a smear at the set if possible.Like if you poke a little stick down in your lure bottle then try to smear some of the lure on the inside edge of youer dirt hole or if you have some type of backing behind the dirt hole then smear a little lure on your backing before dropping the stick down into the hole.

Also just about any of Craig O'Gormans coyote lures are very good. That fntpost trapper supply out of Michigan carries O'Gorman lures. And I'm pretty sure that Miinnesota Trappers Supply owned by Tim Caven carries O'Gorman Lures. Also O'Gorman has a very good coyote bait called Powder River Bait.I'm just trying to share with you what has worked well for me and try to help get you off to the best start. But like Roy said just about any lure and bait maker that has been around for 20 or 30 years non stop is probably going to have good stuff. One other bait that is good for coyotes comes from Brothers that havwe been around for about 15 years or maybe a lil less but have good stuff is The Kaatz Bros.. Their Red Label predator bait is very good for coyotes as well.Hope that helps ya some.
