To blind or not to blind?

I'm pretty new to this game. I've grown up hunting. But not specifically coyotes. So I was going to see what you guys think. Is it best to hunt with a run and gun style blind? Or is that just extra gear to pack around? Also Tripod or Bipod? TIA

Unless you're running a bait pile, I don't think a blind will help anything at all in a calling situation. I think it would be more of a detriment honestly in a calling situation. For daytime calling you're better off tucked into brush, rocks or clumps of grass. Some folks camo up their shooting sticks to create a bit of cover if you're sitting on a stool. Nighttime its less necessary to worry about hiding unless it's a bright moon. Then you just tuck into shadows.

Tripods rule at night. Bipods and shooting sticks are generally considered the better option for daytime setups. It's pretty much up to you on what you prefer though.

I think a full blind is a PITA! But an accordion style screen is quick and efficient! I made an accordion style white screen from coroplast years ago and still use it today. It opens up in seconds and sit's in front you to block any movement you want to hide.

Thanks for all the response! I totally agree with the sentiment. But man tucking into the brush can get uncomfortable quick. And from what I hear coyotes pick up movement super well. (AKA I'm ADD and can't sit still for to long.) I was thinking a run and gun style blind might be viable. Has anyone tried these yet?

Or I thought about the Nukem. IDK maybe I just need to learn how to be still.

Only reasons for a blind, stay warm(long periods) or dry. Otherwise stay mobile.
Sitting= sticks, standing tripod. Night time= tripod. Daylight in low or no cover = prone with bipod.
How do you deal with seeing over the brush? I'm in the sage brush country. And I always feel like its a trade off. Bipod down low. You can't easily be seen. but you can't see very well. Tripod you stand out like a sore thumb. but you can be see.

Would depend on where and how much ground you are hunting. But generally, blinds are not needed unless strictly hunting/sitting a bait site.
Yeah I'm hunting in the desert sagebrush stuff. I've read a lot about only setting up for 15min stands. but the few times I've called dogs in its been 30min or more.

Thats a cool idea!

If there isn't enough elevation change to see over the sage ie... (sitting on the side of a rise looking over a flat or depression) , then a small stool or chair of sorts and shooting sticks or med. length bipod.
What state are you in?

Video would have been more convincing if they killed a few coyotes. Lol...

It's completely up to you whether you want to try it or not. When you originally said "Run and Gun style blind" my thoughts went to a pop-up blind which I feel would be cumbersome, and unnatural looking in most cases. Quite a bit of movement to setup too, when your trying to be as discreet as possible. As I said, there are a couple folks on here that use some form of screening materials on shooting sticks. RSG223's types of blinds are also an option without being too difficult to deploy.

Lots of guys use seats, stools and chairs to get comfortable enough to get you through a stand. Every stand can bring it's own set of variables to deal with. Only you can determine your comfort level and whether to sit, stand or prone out. If you think you need the added benefit of a blind or screening, go for it.

Did you kill the few you have called in at the 30 minute mark? Were you seated or standing? Have you spooked many from moving around? These are the things that over time help you fine tune your game. When you've been at it awhile, you start to pay attention to the finer points of a setup like keeping the sun at your back and tucking into shadows etc. Experience is your best teacher. You'll probably find over time that less stuff to deal with is more.

Good luck!

I find myself sitting in front of the bush and using the bush behind me to break up my outline and no movement the keep me invisible. I've sat in front of power poles, coral corners, sat on rocks as long as there are rocks behind me so I'm not sky lined. Standing, yucca and joshua trees break up your outline, any taller brush or tree trunk will break up your outline, stillness will hide you. There is nothing like a coyote coming in close and get that "Oh Crap" look when he realizes your a human.

I now sit on a 16" tall three leg stool for all my stands that don't have a natural seat, rock, log, or dirt bank. I'm getting a little stiff and getting up off the ground can be a struggle sometimes.

pay attention to this guy;

You can see how he’s silhouetted against the open sky with no backdrop. I’d assign zero probative weight to the opinions of the people who made this.

I noticed that too. But wasn't going to say anything. Coyotes in my AO would spot that long before I spotted them.

Even if, the guy wasn't sticking out like a sore thumb. The "blind" itself, is. For a coyote that thing would be like walking out of the bedroom to see a grand piano in the hall that wasn't there when they went to bed.

scrap the blind idea-learn to be still and blend in OR 'in front'. Movement (lack of) is key!
Yeah I've heard multiple things. "as long as you have a good backdrop you're fine." And "oh no! Any movement and they will bust you." That's what appealed to me about a short blind. Is I can still grab my range finder or binos and scan around. Like I said I don't have a ton of experience and I only have time to get out about once a month. So I figured I'd pick your guys brains.
