To build or just buy a cz for a 17 remington?

You ever shot one ?

I don't own any CF 17's, but I'm still waiting for an answer to that question.

Kevins 2 pictures proves that the 17 Rem. is better than the 17-204. The 17 Rem. will produce doubles every time.

But maybe you're right...
I still haven't shot a quad with the 17/204 yet!

Only a couple of triples...one of these belongs to my son.

I recently purchased a cz 527 varmint in 17 rem.,no blood on it yet but as far as fit, finish feel and the way it prints on paper, well I love it!

Seven more days and the build begins, can't wait!! Only problem is I keep second guessing myself , leave it a 17FB or ream it to 17 REM.

Don't forget! You can always load a .17 Remington down to .17 FB level but you cannot (safely) load a .17 FB to .17 Remmy speeds.

I download my .17 Rem and still get over 4000 FPS with the 20 grain or even the 25 grain Vmax. Shoots great, very accurate and my brass last a good long time. Works for me.

See, that 17-204 just doesn't hold a candle to the 17 Rem.

I've almost got myself talked out of it again Kevin. LOL

Contact James Calhoon in Havre, MT and he can modify your CZ bolt or even your entire gun for you as that is one of his specialties. I have seen his work and it is most impressive. I have one of his single shot followers that really cleans up the looks a your 527. Good work he does.

I know this is a 17 thread...but when I started shooting my New-2-Me CZ 204 at those coyotes in KS and OK... it was like HEAVEN. CZ is QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY.

BUT... I also believe it was the Basix trigger in it that made it so simple and accurate to shoot. Nothing was safe from it.

A New CZ would be great to have.

If you had, you'd know that they really are over-achievers reguardless of what the college-boys say.

No to all. That out of the way I would never buy one. It's true there has been many improvements in powders, rifling and such but that applies to all the other cal's available as well does it not.I've read enough about the .17 Rem to know it's a great little killer with minimal pelt damage but I would MUCH rather have say a .204 Ruger or any of the larger varmint rounds.Bullet choice alone make them far more versatile regardless if you load or are limited to factory ammo.

I do indeed love my .17 Rem. It is a Rem. 700 BDL that I bought some yrs. ago. I load Nagel 30gr., .046 HP pills that do what I ask them as long as I do my part. I cannot comment on the CZ rifle as I have never owned one. But, the .17 Rem. cartridge is a keeper. MTG

Probably should have simply stopped at admitting that you shared your sage advice on the 17Rem based on zero actual experience with it, but since you didn't, please share the actual information I'm sure you researched thoroughly regarding bullet choices for 204 vs 17 cals. Loaded ammo, yea, but 204 bullet selection for reloaders isn't any better.
Sometimes when you find yourself in a hole Bernie, the best thing to do is stop digging.

When I have some free time, I'll tell you all about shooting rhinos with a .375 H&H. I've never done it...but I read about it on the internet.
