Too cheap for camo!!

Thrift stores generally have military field jackets and coveralls cheap. After buying the expensive guns, calls, gas, trucks. etc. I dont skimp on the camo whether it helps or not.
 
Well, I'll admit I like wearing camo and have 3/4 sets applicable to my area. 1 for duck/goose hunting (catails style), general fall deer hunting (original advantage & predator fall gray) and sno camo (nat gear/seclusion). That said, I typically have the coat/head gear and wear carharts bibs.

Its overwhelming with the all the styles out there & 15 different syles are not necessary, but I firmally believe the reason is marketing. Like fishing lures, they are more designed to catch you more than fish.. I mean, why do they have 49 different color patterns in the same lure?? Same with camo.

Key is to break up outline & sit still. Wether its using plaid shirts, spray painted coveralls, your accomplishing the same.

I have used white bio hazard suits, I am sure these are similar to tyvek, but dont hold up in the cold...

Again, something cool about wearing camo... Hunters fashion statement???

camo has gone to the extreme. but there are always guys buying the latest and greatest each year so the companies keep putting more and more.

when i was a kid, money was tight, i felt lucky enough to have enough money to buy shells. camo was never an option. i always wore cheap kmart or sears coveralls. killed a lot of game.

now, i make decent money, have new camo, new guns and don't seem to shoot the game i used to. i wonder if there is a correlation?

it's probably the movements that will always give you away. now, i'm scared i will get a business call on my cell phone and check too frequently. man life was good when all you were concerned with nailing something with fur on it, whether it be two or four legged.

Doesn't the permanent marker have a bad odor for predator/deer hunting? or do you hang it out for a long time to let it air out?

I completely understand your frugality. I have a fetish for ghillie suits, but seeing the average price makes me cringe. So i opted to make my own out of fishnet mesh and strips of digital camo. It cost me about $40 when all was said and done. It looks really cool, too.
 
Another thumbs up for the tyvek suits /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif, we have some where I work at and I'll be "borrowing" one soon (as soon as it snows here in SE Iowa anyway).

Not sure......I have washed it with the scent killing soap and the pattern I drew on there stayed fairly well, it faded a little, but I think it actually looked better then. I also have used a tyvek suit.
 
Sorry guys for bringing back a very dead thread but, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have an interesting story. This weekend my dad and I went calling, we set up in a brushy patch in a harvested bean field, with a creek running in front of us about 200 yards. I spotted a bobcat at the creek and started to lip squeak. I was wearing my brown bib coveralls and a faded camo long sleeve shirt. The cat came to 4 yards of my foot and sat down and stared for 5 minutes. His attention was on Dad who was wearing full camo. Dad told me that he (dad) never moved a muscle during the whole event and the cat was just watching his eyes blink. The cat never gave me a second look until I whistled at him. I have been considering coughing up the cash for a good camo set, but this has talked me out of that once again. Cats are out of season now in KS so we just watched him walk away.

I think camo has some advantages for turkeys and waterfowl. Absolutely worthless for deer in a blaze orange state like Kansas. I mix and match camo (whatever is on sale..then the stuff is pretty cheap for good clothing) for coyotes but am a firm beliver in face mask and gloves... and I like dark glasses.
 
One of the most effective things I've used hunting (trad bowhunting from the ground where you've got to get CLOSE) was a piece of off-brand camo fleece (I just picked one that matched the terrain I was hunting) material that I picked up at the fabric store. I wear it like a poncho -about three quarter length or so when standing. It's QUIET, easy on and off (just cut a slit to put my head through), and remarkably warm cause it surrounds your whole form when you're seated. If you need to, you can use a piece of rope for a belt for moving around but it works best to break up your human shape if draped around you while you're seated. I still use it for predator hunting, tho I need to get something a little lighter colored for set ups in the grass. With this thing, the only part that sticks out is your head and arms and that's easy enough to deal with. yeah, it's camo (not any commercial brand you'd recognize) but I think light/medium brown would work in most spots. Like others have said, movement is what will get you busted first and covering your face and hands is major too.

All that being said, I sure like the way Predator brand camo looks/works. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I just bought a Camo sweat shirt (real wood) for my son at Wal-Mart for

ONE DOLLAR..

also bought Camo pants (real wood) for a dollar.

Bought Camo snake boots for my boy for 1/2 price $35 at Sports Academy.

This is the time of year to help the stores unload there inventory. Some of you may have to wait until the end of Turkey season, but it should be cheaper than the internet because stores dont want to carry the inventory all spring and summer.
