Tough Boar

This boar was a big tough hog that would not stay down. I hesitated with a follow up shot because there were more hogs in the area and I was trying not to shoot more than necessary.

He surprised me when he started to run so I was late on the follow up and finally had to just keep putting rounds into him.

Bet that first shot was a tad high and even though probably lethal, it just temporarily paralyzed him. I’m a firm believer on larger hogs, if they move, they get another round.

I agree on both counts. Tried to spine him with a neck shot and should have just put one into his forward shoulder. I was on him for the follow up and normally would have taken the shot but I had only been in the stand for an hour and he showed early. I was after a large sounder so I was trying to keep the shooting to a minimum but should have just followed up with another shot when he rolled over to get up.

I actually had 2 rifles set up in the shooting house and was waiting for the singles with a 300 BLK with subsonics since I was set up 45 yards from the feeder. He came in way right and would not come into the feeder and I almost had to shoot him left handed but managed to barely get behind my 6.8 that was set up in a shooting saddle.
