Trading with Buds?

I've bought several guns and knives from them but I have never traded a gun to them. They have such great deals and great customer service I bet they would be pretty darn fair at everything else. They will need to make a profit though. You would always do better selling on your own.

I sent a message wanting to trade, we'll see how it goes. I'm not expecting to much to come out of it. Ya never know though.

Dang, Bill. You running low on guns or what? Now what are you wanting? I just cannot imagine you having any kind of void in the gun department.

I hope they aren't anything like Cabelas. I've had a couple buddy's try to trade in the gun library and they offered them about half af what it was worth. I've bought many guns from buds and have had nothing but good dealings. Maybe they will offer a decent trade value. Good luck

There was an empty spot in the safe. LOL

What I'm offering to trade is worth quite a bit more than what I am wanting to trade for. I think that is where the problem may be. We shall see!

Never worked for Bud's, but every shop for which I've worked has had an unwritten policy basically to only convert trade-in firearms into firearms, not cash. Pretty standard business strategy: cash leaving = instant hit, firearm coming in = inventory cost until it's sold. So if you're gonna end up with cash coming back, they'll likely try to minimize their hit. Might get better overall value if you took the differential as store credit or towards another item.

Got a reply from Bud's this morning. Their offer was lower than I could accept but I understand business. Can't give to much for something and stay in business. Thats OK though. I have a local guy that want the rifle and is going to work a pretty good deal with me. Its probably still going to work out good. Bud's will still make money off of this deal too!!

I have dealt with Buds, buying only...all positive.

I would expect to get fair market DEALER price from a guy that is a gun dealer, they have to make money to pay for the lights, lisc, insurance, etc.

I would think that you could sell the gun in heart beat by offering to sell for more than Bud's offer on this site, accurate shooter.com, or 24hrcampfire.

Of course, when you want their item now, you expect to take a hit. Expecting to get 60% of retail would be a fair assumption, which is a big hit.

I traded 1 pistol for 2 a few years ago, it went smoothly.

But you have to expect it to be business, not giving you a hand out. If an item retails at 500 you can't expect 500.

An internet trader can only give you an "average" trade-in value for a rifle they've never seen in person. I can't imagine doing as well trying to trade online as with a personal trade, whether its a store or an individual.

I agree with all the above comments. I didn't expect much more than a 60% offer. They, Bud's, said it didn't matter if the rifle was fired or unfired, here is what we will offer. Wasn't a bad deal, just not a good deal on my end. I fully understand, it might sell tomorrow or a year from now. They're the ones with money tied up. I got a local guy thats working a deal with me and looks like I might break even so I am waiting to here from him. Breaking even is a good thing for me. LOL Doesn't happen to often. Bud's does have good prices though.

I have bought guns from Buds more than once and actually gotten more trade in allowance for them at local gun shops than what I paid at Buds.
