Thinking about buying one and just wondering what y'alls thoughts are on it and would it handle a smokeless load? I know it says its not rated for it but just wondering if anyone has experience with smokeless in it.
 
You are lucky if the BP loads are safe with the cheap foreign made muzzle loaders IMO.I'd not push my luck with one of them.

I'd buy a USA made rifle. I like Knight best. Then White. Then Savage, then T/C. In that order......
 
Id love to have a high dollar ML but i caint justify spending a grand in a ML that i can only use 2 weeks out of the year. I was just wondering if the no smokeless thing was just to keep idiots from loading it up with 100 gns of smokeless like they would BP. Ive been in the reloading world for a while and know the effects of a bum load. Is Knight still in buisness? Thought id heard they went under.
 
never shoot smokeless in a gun not designed for it. Its your life in your hands, taking the chance would basically be suicide.

Check out the CVA Accura V2 Or CVA Accura Mountain Rifle, EXCELLENT muzzys.

If the MR is out of your price range, the CVA Accura V2 or Optima would be a great choice has both have superb triggers.
 
CVA is junk IMO. Hard to find a firearms company with a worse track record.

I'll never understand why anyone would buy a cheaply made foreign muzzleloader when perfectly good American ones exist. But I guess that's just me.....
 
I've got one and have no complaints,shoots the 300gr shockwave with 100gr of blackhorn under an inch at a 100yds. Easy to clean and comfortable to carry. Our season is 2 weeks also so the cost is justified.
 
I have a Traditions Pursuit Accelerator. I have had zero issues with it. I have doped it out to 225yds and will shoot sub minute of deer vitals consistently.

I have a friend that just bought a new CVA. Again, no issues with that one either. Very well built ML, and it just shot a 3" group at 200yds.

I have another friend that has a CVA that is sub minute of deer vitals consistently out to 250yds

That being said, we are running 777 pellets and SSTs and/ or Powerbelt HPs through all the above mentioned rifles. I would NOT RECOMMEND running smokeless powder through a M/L that is not intended to run smokeless powder through it.

THAT COULD END WITH FATAL RESULTS!!!

2muchgun, what exactly is your issues with CVA and Traditions other than they are not USA made? Specifically- mechanical operation, materials used to make the gun, ect.

Im with 2muchgun on this one. I Own 4 knights including a shotgun. I had a TC pro Hunter and a TC Triumph and got tired of crappy groups so I sold them both. Saturday I order a knew Knight Disc Extreme .52cal to give it a shot. I love everything about knight rifles. TC has terrible triggers.
 
I have a T/C Omega and really like it. Accurate and doesn't punish the shooter. If you not too far from me your'e more than welcome to try it out, I have a 100 yard range about 50 feet from my house.
 
Just my opinion and it and a quarter won't buy squat, but... CVA in the earlier years was , as 2Much said, was crap. But some of the new stuff is pretty decent. I gave my Omega to my son and ended up with a Cva Optima this year. Using BH 209 and a bit of tweeking. I get pretty consistant one inch groups at 100 yards. I helped a friend sight his Wolfe ( cheapest CVA offered at Wally World)and with 2 pellets of 777 and a Shockwave, he was cutting the same hole at 100. It is what it is????? Like I said, JMO! As for Traditions, I sold mine!!

look at those AR's you shoot, still pieces of junk.
 
When did this turn into an AR thread. I agree 100% why no buy American made when given the choice. Especially when the gun made in USA is better. And yes my ARs are all made in the USA.

Check this one out too, its pretty solid and a great shooter. One thing that doesnt really get me to excited is the ceracoat finish, it just has a dirty feel to it and when you wipe it down, just doeant feel smooth a slick like a real SS barrel does.

why not give them both to me since you dont like them? I know how to make gun shoots.

Actually I tell you what, you send them to me, i will go through them and clean them, make sure you didnt screw anything up and then I will donate them online to someones kid that would like to get started in muzzleloading.
