Treestands and Farting

Two questions here....

I being from the south east have open land to open but its either cut into sections from tree lines or provides no over watch. I have a very light weight tree stand but is not a climber. Is it worth using on the edge of tree lines/open fields?

Next, actual question, will yotes and other preds bust you over farts?

They may decide to roll in it, depending on what you had for supper the night prior......

Good question, I'd guess they would leave if they got a snoot full of your flatulence. Just the same, if I ever get so serious about hunting that I won't crack one off for entertainment I'll find another sport.

I'm with you, its all fun.

However, after a good screaming from my wife on the horribleness of my farts got me thinking

If I recall correctly? Methane has a vapor density of .9
Vapor density of air = 1.0

So unless a down-draft occurs, you should be okee dokee. Btw, no smoking or open flames. Whilest floating an air biscuit.

I know Wooly ripped one in Verminators 5 and one came right in (probably had something to do w/RA calling)!!

From experience, no effect...unless the wind is wrong (but you’re screwed either way).

If they can smell your butt breath, you gonna be busted before that in the first place because it's just gonna go the same direction your current smell has already been going since you first sat down. Catch my drift?

If your back end looks anything like your front end, it will probably evacuate the area.

But, do you think they can tell the difference between a deer, cow, coyote or any other fart?

How far can the normal gas bubble be smelt given a "normal" wind and an average humity? Lots of variables, me think.

Volume and potency would certainly have an affect as well. Maybe I'll do some field tests. It would be interesting to compare the ol' run of the mill BBQ fart against a Moosehead and bratwurst special....

The real equation has to involve volume of air and/or parts per million of contaminant.

You can definately get a good wiff in the truck or in an elevator, but have you ever smelt one from across the room or from your neighbors back yard? That leads me to believe the range of even the most potent pootant is either not very far, or straight up.

Seems to me there might be a market? for methane encapsulating plastic man skivees?[hunter version of course in camo pattern...duh!] Where is our go-to guy anyway? He ought to chime in on this potential money maker.

It will take you longer to set up a tree stand than you should normally spend on stand. Plus the sound and movement of setting up the stand on the edge of the opening is going to work against you.

To me, tree starts are not an effective/efficient way to predator hunt. I am sure someone will disagree. Not saying you can't call one from a tree stand, but while you are setting up a stand I can find a place on the ground I can see from, call the stand and be on my way to the next one.

One time on the walk in to a stand I accidentally let one slip right when my cousin was behind me... He asked me to never do that again while his mouth was open... Then we called in the big dog in my avatar picture... I now consider it a good omen... No joke.

Good idea....

A grape and crap scented projectile, ricocheting about the forest.

Then again, Cat Daddy Cold has probably killed a yote that way too.....
