Trigger pull weight?

I'm dropping off my T/C Encore ProHunter and my 22-250 tomorrow to have trigger jobs done on them. I got a Bellm 2-2 1/2 lb trigger spring kit for the Encore and and I'm having the trigger for the 22-250 set between 2 1/2 and 3 lbs. Is that about the norm for hunting rifles or should I consider going lighter? I don't want hair triggers for my hunting rifles.

IMHO 3 lbs is the minimum for a hunting rifle. You add in wearing gloves and some excitement (adrenalin) and 3 lbs goes off very easily. Save the light triggers for bench guns.

+1 This.

Simple solution: I don't pull the trigger with a winter gloved finger...

Winter gloves will make ANY trigger spongey/squishy. Not my cup of tea. I generally wear flip top mittens these days with thin liners underneath. Plenty warm down to 30below (about as cold as it ever gets here), and doesn't jack with my trigger when the time comes. There's no force that would make me enjoy pulling a trigger with a winter gloved finger.

That said, I generally stay in the 2# plus ballpark with hunting triggers. I'd rather have an 8oz trigger than a 5# trigger, but after bumping off a round into the dirt many moons ago using a 14oz trigger for coyotes when I was trying to pivot my rifle just a little bit on the bipod on a walking dog, I figure a little more resistance in the finger would be nice. Learn the hard way I guess...

I wear flip up mittens, I think I'll be ok at 2 1/2 lbs. Just courious too see what everyone prefers? I put off getting this done way too long!

Most of mine are in the 1 1/2 pound range. No gloves when the triggers getting pulled. Don't get very cold here anymore so all I usually wear is an old pair of jersey gloves anyway. Some have the trigger finger cut off.

I hate a trigger I have to puullll. It takes away from accuracy IMO! My son graduated to a lighter trigger from a 7 pound factory trigger and his groups improved by 50 per cent. Its not a hair trigger but is around the lighter side of 2 lbs.

I picked them up this morning on my way to work and the Bellm TC trigger kit worked like a charm! the trigger pull weight on my encore pro-hunter is at 2 1/4 lbs and feels great! It's the difference between night and day!

The Gunsmith who did the work said it was a simple job.

My hunting rifle has a 2.5 pound trigger and I find its about perfect. Dont really have to PUUUULLLLLLLL it but its not a touchy trigger either.

I would go right in the 2-3 pound range.

A clean crisp trigger does not have to be super light to be a nice trigger. If you can't shoot well with a 3.5lb trigger you need more practice. Most people say they keep there finger off the trigger until they run one with a trigger pull measured in ounces. Keep a field guns trigger around 3 and leave the benchrest triggers to the benchrest.
