Tripod

I bought a big nikon spotting scope kit. The scope is great but the tripod was way to light and cheap for the scope. It wobbled horribly when it was fully extended and then I broke it. So does anybody have one that they would recommend. One that is built well, sturdy and not to heavy? I know I'm asking alot for the built well and not to heavy. Thanks in advance for any suggestons.

Backpack and carry. I probably shouldn't have got such a big scope. I can get by with a cheaper stand up and view at the range. Thanks

Here is a pic of the two I use:
Picture was from a LR antelope kill this Oct. I used the Slik for an accurate reading on my laser rangefinder.
The larger one is a Burris, and it is outstanding.

If you are looking for one for a backpack then take a look at the one in the picture below. It is a Leupold tripod. Two of the legs unscrew from the ball and screw into the larger leg. The tripod is very stable. And the ball swivels left and right, and up and down. If you look real close you can see that there is also a locking ring at the top of the ball. When you tighten the ring up, the whole tripod gets very solid. Tom.

Those are probably the best backpacking tripod ever made, but unfortunately, Leupold discontinued them and they're pretty tough to find.

Might consider looking around for a "Camera" tripod that is small, but sturdy. Might even find one at some garage sale if you want to go cheap. Most spotting scope tripods I've seen are pricey, but appear to be the same as a camera tripod for a heck of alot cheaper. Just a thought!
