Tripod

Well I bought an AGM rattler thanks to all who helped me decide. So now I would like to buy a tripod. Kinda like the hog. any and all opinions are welcome.

I’m interested in a tripod as well…would like something I can use with an AR and a bolt action…I’m 6’4” if that has any bearing on choices

For a Tripod .. hands-down ' The Best bang ' for your Buck-$ ' with a nice ridged platform .. It is going to be the, Innorel RT80C ( 32mm carbon tube ) . You can score one for 200-$ . It comes with a 75mm bowl also . The Innorel RT80C is Ridged platform, and nice packing carry weight . A TON of guy's shoot off them.
You can go for Innorel 40mm tube, ' RT90C ' but it not necessary and is little more carry weight .

( Me ).. I keep it simple with just a Hog Saddle directly connected on the Bowl on a Cabon fiber Tripod for rifle mounting and shooting . but Heads are a whole different discussion, and everyone has their own personal preference for shooting needs and wants with Tripod Heads and QD connection .

two vets qdt, the most stable tripod that you will find.

RRS are also very nice

Dont skimp on the tripod, its what makes the biggest difference between killing and missing. I went with the sub 300 dollar tripods at first, hunted with guys that had quality ones and quickly upgraded once I saw how big of a difference they make. I also use the RRS SOAR head

I have been using the RT90C with a RRS anvil 30 head for a couple of years.
It has and is serving me well. I much prefer the 40 mm legs.

Do not get a hog saddle just mount a arca plate to your rifle. I’ve hunted with a hog saddle for 7 years took it off last year and went with a arca plate and I’m a lot steadier. Unless you’re going to run a bolt gun and don’t wanna mess with drilling holes in your stock then get the hog saddle.

I like to run RRS tripods with the Anvil-30 ARC for ARs and bolt guns. I'm a big fan of the RRS R-Lock system for extra security when carrying a rifle on the tripod through the field. I have a Two Vets QDT V2 tripod with their 55mm ballhead too. I quickly changed the the Two Vets clamp to the RRS SC-ARC clamp SC-ARC Bipod Clamp . I like how the RRS clamps will not open accidentally and will work with arca and picatinny. You can get a decent set of carbon fiber legs, a decent ballhead, and put an improved clamp on top to save some money and still have a functional and dependable setup...just depends on how much you want to spend.

I have had several brands and they all worked. I found that each one was better than the one before. I am now using a Fatboy and a Leofoto, the Fatboy is very stable and has a leveling head but the Leofoto is lighter though not quite as stable. The Fatboy is bulkier and a little heavier but rock solid. The only way to know which will work for you is to try several and see which suits you. edit to say all have arca swiss clamp setup

Carbon fiber, inverted, 2 section legs are the way to go. From there look at the different price offerings. Many of these offered for sale just have a new name applied to them and are not made by the company offering them for sale. When I bought mine, Leofoto SO 322C, it was on sale for under $400 which included shipping. I have a Leofoto YB 75LR leveling base that will lock in a picatinny rail or arca rail.

What I have found that works really, really well is an Armageddon Fat Bag mounted to an aluminum plate. With this setup, you're looking at repeatable bench accuracy. When using an arca rail or picatinny rail, the tripod will always rock back. When using a fat bag mount, the rifle recoils as it was on a bench. I've used this setup for standing and sitting on a stool.

When using a fat bag, another advantage is being able to move around the tripod without having to loosen the leveling base, move to new position and lock it back.

My complete setup weighs in at 7 lbs. The tripod weighs around 4 lbs. I used a .25 aluminum plate and could have used a smaller thickness that would have saved on weight or a carbon fiber plate. The carbon fiber plate would have cost much more that the aluminum plate.

Has anyone used the Vortex Radian tripods?
From what I have read the Vortex Radian is a rebranded Leofoto 364C. Leofoto frequently has a %20 sale from their website, you might can save some money over the Vortex.
The Leofoto/Vortex are 4 section tripods. Unless you need to be able to collapse it short I recommend a 2 section tripod. They are generally more stable from what I have seen.
The current discount code is FB20, (maybe, that is from an ad on FaceBook)

I just sold that exact tripod. I bought it new 1 year ago from Amazon for just under $400.00 tax included. It is not available on Amazon now and the retail price is $499.99 from Leofoto.
For less than $400.00 it is a good tripod. I did have to constantly snug up the bowl lock lever. Maybe the apex was stretching and would have eventually stayed tight, IDK.
I compared it to my RRS, my Fatboy, and a 2 vets. It was not as stable as either of those but at the price point it was pretty stable. I just could not get past the legs crossing or I would have kept it.

So far I haven't had an issue with the bowl lock. I have found it to be very sturdy but can't compare it other cabron fibers tripods since I've never used others. I refuse to pay the price for RRS and some of the others. The area I hunt PD in is rolling hills along with some flat lands and so far this one works great.

It is strange the legs cross when folded up. When I walk the PD fields most of the time I leave the legs in the spread position if only going a short distance. Longer walks 75+ yards I'll fold the legs in and hold it over my shoulder.

Everyone's idea and usage is different, so it's not a one size fits all, my requirements are not the same as the next guy's.

Maximum height, folded length, weight, price, and other factors need to be considered when trying to choose.

I've been through multiple tripods to get to where I am today.

This is all Greek to me…so what heads work with this if I were to buy it?

Here's my two tripods I use, both Leofotos, LS-324C and a LS-364C, both topped with Leofoto LB-65 leveling heads.

The 324 gets used the most, as I generally sit most of the time, the 364 I use for standing & general playing.

Folded length was important to me as I haul mine in in the scabbard all the time at night, & carry the gun,

or daytime, the gun in the scabbard & strap the tripod on the side of the pack.
