Tripod

I think the word “FLEX” may be getting taken a little out of context here? I don’t believe the “flex” is so much of the legs bending or bowing under stress. I think the flex is shown more in the stability of the head itself. Wobble might be a better descriptor? The higher end stiffer tripods have a lot less wobble transmitted to the head/gun.

I seen those, but wondered if they were solid since they were only held by one screw?
Solid. 2 screws in the one I got. I think it’s called the hunter’s rail. Full length of the forearm. Mostly arca with about 3” section of picatinny on the end which works with my Swagger QD42 bipod. Also has a sling stud on the very end. I like it.

Hey Spurchaser, are you still running the DeathGrip Clamp with the ballhead coonversion? Or is it now ARCA equipped? If you’ve already mentioned this I missed it. My biggest issue was more the weight and limited maneuverability of the head than the tripod itself. The movement of the head on the one I had briefly was kinda jerky as well.
No ARCA yet, just using the clamp on the head. Baby steps, lol. From the original to this is a major upgrade. Heck, I can even see a difference in the videos for some reason. It’s smoother scanning and following squirters. Stays level no matter how far left or right I go.
I still don’t see the flex issue and I can lock my rifle in without fear of it tipping. For me “right now” it’ll be my tripod. I may bite the bullet one day and buy one of these they advertise, but I’m gonna have to find something seriously wrong with what I have first.

I have a ballhead conversion on my aluminum dg, using arca plate when possible ( my bolt guns I haven't worked on yet). Much nicer(lighter better balance) carrying the tripod without the dg clamp. One of my TC dimension stocks will definitely have an arca plate mounted before winter. It's very comfortable(and accurate) shooting on a large bench top, with the dg legs out "flat". Very precise way to practice shooting(sighting in) duplicating the way the rifle will be supported while hunting.

Here is a video of my tripod and how how unstable it is. I did have a friend who let mt mount a rifle to his fat boy with the ball head and their level head. Both of those were far and away more stable than what I’m using. I never really considered getting a different tripod I kinda figured this one has been pretty good to me until I hunted a tournament last fall and started seeing what other guys were using and the distances they were accurately shooting. I know some of them were chest beaters but one of my friends said no it is quite a bit better and that I should try something different/better.

It’s difficult to see the legs moving much in the video but they are moving around a considerable amount. Not just that but the center post is a huge lever. I’m tall and need it extended to where it’s at and maybe a bit higher when I have my big hunting boots on.

I picked an Innorel RT80C last year and I’ve been really happy with it. I shoot sitting most of the time so I couldn’t justify spending a ton of money on a tripod. It’s been rock solid.

Good video to show the movement. Your tripod however unstable is better than a monopod, for example, and if the center was lowered it would be even better. Bottom line get what you can afford it may not be the best but it will be better than nothing

Hopefully Thursday I’ll have my new tripod set up and shooting. Tracking says between Thursday and Saturday. I’ll post some pics and a short video when I get it up and running. There’s a story to go along with it.

I’m very blessed to have probably the very best hunting partner in the world. He ordered this two vets tripod with the intention of running a level head. Not realizing he ordered the wrong model and having them engrave his name on it they wouldn’t take it back. He called me and said he’s giving it to me then he called me knowing I was going to buy this ball head and said he ordered it for me and would be here on Thursday. I’ve tried to pay him for this stuff and he won’t take any money he just wants me to take him coyote hunting. I’m not going to lie I teared up a little bit when he told me. I’ve never been given much at all in this life. I’ve always done what I can to make ends meet at home and have fun hunting. Even if I do pay him back I will never be able to pay him back for his kindness.

Sounds like a very good buddy, I hope you give him the first couple shots. You know what they say, " what goes around comes around "

As Kino said... RT 90 is the most stable tripod for the lowest amount of money out there. I ran one for 3 yrs to kill over 240 Yotes with it until buying the 2 vets original version that the RT 90 is a copy of. Ran 5-6 stands night 5 nights a week and never had an issue.. is it as good as two vets..nope. Is it 10x more stable than BOG junk pod. Yep. I ran one my kid bought me for Father’s Day for a few hrs when they first came out..spent money for conversion to ball head, at a clamp etc...still a flimsy heavy & noisy POS.
You don’t have to buy top of line RRS etc... but bottom of the line bog isn’t any better than a set of trigger sticks other than it works as a gun holder.

Shoot my bolt rifle off both tripods at distance showed a pretty big difference in these two tripods. I was able to make hits on rocks out in my pasture with ease at 400 and 450 yds. I could do it with my old tripod but I was on the struggle bus. Not nearly as easy as the new head and tripod. Rocks were roughly the size of cantaloupe. I’d feel extremely confident shooting a coyote at that distance with that rifle.
