For those of you using tripods,which mounting options do you recommend? I am trying to decide between a direct mount to a picatinny rail or the kofjegger reaper grip. Building a new AR, so I can put the picatinny rail anywhere.

Our CRETAC Picatinny to Arca-Swiss adaptor is the cheapest, lightest and most solid way to mount a firearm to a tripod. The Reaper Grip and Pig Saddle are good but they have some drawbacks such as cost, weight and a bit of wiggle even when mounted properly. We will have more CRETAC's in stock next week.





Also, We just received our large shipment of Night Stalkers and will be shipping all backorders next week. Unfortunately, we've already sold everything we have so the lead times are still 8 weeks for new orders.
 
I tried the Pig Saddle and while it is very solidly built, the Night Stalker really comes into it's own with the CRETAC. It makes it so lightweight and easy to carry. Man, I love that setup and the versatility of going high or low as well as the ability to go bipod in a tighter place like a tree stand.
 
The cretac adapter is the way to go. I have played with quite a few mounting options and it really is the most solid way to go. The legs are very important as well. Don’t make the same mistakes I and many others have. Buy once cry once!
 
Aluminum or a strong titanium tripod with a solid head unit.
I run an aluminum Manfrotto Tripod and 2 position Manfrotto Headunit.
Topped with HOG Saddle.
I dorked around with plastic and light weight tripods.
They flex on recoil and completely jack with your accuracy.
 
Probably leaning toward the cretac mount. My only fear is the picatinny rail or hand guard being able to handle weight of the rifle and any abuse it might take. Lots of expensive equipment on attached to it!

Carbon Fiber flexes less than aluminum.
 
I have Pig Saddles on both of my tripods. I would like to try the Cretac mount but neither of my rifles are drilled in the right balance spot for mounting a rail. If I had known then what I now now I would have chosen a MLock or KeyMod forearm so I could find the sweet spot.
I see photos of rifles that are tilted way down in stand-by to compensate for being so out of balance.
I imagine that those guys have to really tighten the ballhead to keep the rifle stable in the stand-by position. I prefer to have my rifles balanced level with minimum ballhead tension.

Sweet, I ordered my nightstalker on 3/1 so I hope I'm in on this shipment.
I planned on using this RRS Mlok adapter with the upper I'm building for my thermal. This will work, correct? The RRS appears to be lower profile. I may need a CRETAC adapter for my other upper that is not Mlok, but does the CRETAC offer any advantages over the RRS setup? If there is a better Mlok alternative to the RRS please advise.

Greyhunter, the RRS MLOK will work...I have this on my rifle and it works perfectly with the nightstalker tripod system. Easy on and off of the tripod and really makes the tripod light to carry.

Ok so I purchased the Night Stalker tri-pod with the pig saddle and I loved it.. Decided to try out the cretac adapter since i'm always searching for something better that may improve my success in the field and wow I will definitely be putting my pig saddle in the drawer for now...

I love this cretac mounting system, lower center of gravity, rock solid with no wiggle or play
Its cheaper then the pig saddle and I would say it is a more solid setup, Drastically reduced the weight of my tri-pod...

After considering various options, I decided to order the Night Stalker Tripod and the CRETAC Picatinny Rail adapter from Nightgoggles, Inc.

Can't wait to try it out. Now when I take folks hunting, they will have a rock solid means from which to hunt while I'm busy using my turret set up.

Greyhunter, the RRS MLOK will work...I have this on my rifle and it works perfectly with the nightstalker tripod system. Easy on and off of the tripod and really makes the tripod light to carry.
