truck gun carrying ideas

Hope this is the right place to post! I have an 04 Toyota Tundra Access Cab and am currently carrying in individual gun cases but hate having to continuously put them in a case between stands. I don't have enough room in the rear window to hang them and the truck isn't wide enough to install a big sky roof mount. Does anyone have any pics of what they are using or any ideas that would make for easy access while between stands? TIA for any and all ideas!

Been using one of these since 2004. Bought mine from Cabela's. Holds three guns, quiet, strong, guns are held against the back seats tight and don't flop around at all, keeps the guns out of the floor or seats and it's inexpensive. Real long guns like a 30" barreled shotgun can be a tight fit but it's workable. Short guns like a 16" AR only get about 2" in either side but it's fine. My truck is a Ram Quad Cab to give you an idea about seat spacing and cab room.

Nice rack, Gary.

I hunt only private property and it is legal to shoot from a stationary vehicle in Texas as long as you are on private property, so I like to have my firearms handy in both the jeep and my club cab pickup. Each presents it's own problems.

The CJ is small and has very limited space for mounting rifle rack. Best fit I found was this rack from Cabela's , but 4WD & parking brake levers prevented mounting as suggested in Cabela picture. Rifles (2) are carried in the rack and the "snake doctor" (20 ga NEF youth SG) rides in a saddle scabbard behind and over driver's left shoulder (red arrow).

I was unable to find anything that would mount in my full size club cab pickup due to console, so devised this home made custom built

rack. The front end rests on dash board and is held down to console by a bungee cord (visible right behind flashlight).

The rear end rests on the back of console and buts up against back seat to prevent slipping off the dash; it is also held in place by another bungee cord.

Looking forward from back seat:

It is a work in progress, having been altered a couple of times to conform to various different firearms. Currently holds a bolt gun on left and right side and an AR top center. Need to change the center rack to fit my M1 since I can no longer use an AR. All friction points between firearms and truck dash/seat are padded w/carpet and the two bungees are all that hold it in place so can be easily removed when the truck goes to town. It also carries flashlight, calls, earmuffs and phone charger.

Notches are deep enough that it is not necessary to strap the rifles down, even off road, making them readily accessible.

Regards,
hm

I made a rack for my 12 Tundra Crewmax couple of years ago.
Like you ,I to was tired of pulling the back seat forward to hang a gun, laying it across the back seat or shoving it barrel down into the floor only for it to slide around.
So I made a vertical rack , that bolted to front bolts of the backseat mount. I used angle iron and ATV universal gun mounts. Then measured and cut and welded and measured some more and cut some more and welded some more. I think it turned out pretty well. Cost me about $80 to build and 4 hrs of time.
It would hold 4 guns upright. They wouldnt move around or slide into each other. It was easy to remove. Just 2 bolts held it in place.Very sturdy and didnt take up much room.
Ive since sold my Tundra and bought a SuperDuty. Ive been trying to sell the rack on CL for $50 with no luck. ( look @ CL richmond Va - sporting ( custom gun rack ) for pics.
Ive tried to see if it'll fit extended cab Tundras but it won't only crewmax's. I'll give it to anyone with a crewmax, just pay shipping. Several people have told me I should market it , who has time for that!
I plan on making another for the Duty, just finding the time to do so is the only problem.

Try looking at those universal ATV gun mounts. A buddy of mine took one a mounted it to the side of his center console in his Chevy truck to hold a rifle.
Also look at gun magnets. 2 or 3 of those mounted in the right place will hold a rifle or shotgun no problem. I use one to hold my CCW in place at the bottom of my dash.

Give me a day or so and I’ll get you a finished picture of what I’m having sewn up. It’ll be a double rifle sleeve style that fastens over the head rest of a backseat. One side will be open so I can slide my rifle into a cushioned pouch. I was tired of my nice calling rifle falling over and banging on stuff so I thought of this idea. I ordered all the material from amazon and found a nice elderly widow lady that loves to sew and I was willing to pay her. I’m hoping it’s about done and excited to see how it’ll workout!
