Trucks

I drive a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. NO offense to you, I know you're a chevy dealer, but I hate this truck. My old truck was the exact same, except a '92, chromed out, cherry red, and mean. Had some kind of power chip, and flowmaster pipes. YOu could hear me coming, and I only got 12 miles to the gallon on the hwy., if I was lucky. You could feel that '92 rumble, and it would go anywhere. It was my first vehicle, and I did everything in my power to tear that truck up. Just beat the heck out of it. Wrecked it twice. The first time, it totalled the other car. The second wreck, I got hit head on on the corner of the truck by an oncoming dumptruck, bent the frame, still ran like a champ after I got it back from the bodyshop. Burned one transmission up pulling a trailer. Put in a rebuilt tranny for cheap, blew it sky high 5 months later. I loved that truck. It was loud, it didn't ride nice, got horrible mileage, but man it was pretty, and I still wish I hadn't traded it off.

This truck now though. Tons of problems. With all the stuff I put that old truck through, I never had to replace things like u-joints or wheel bearings (besides after it was wrecked), and I was so hard on it. I baby this new truck, and I've put in 4 u-joints, and 3 wheel bearings in two years. The power mirrors don't work, the power windows are on and off, the horn doesn't work, headlight out, gas guage doesn't work, that big message panel displays warnings at all times, etc. Tranny is starting to slip. At first I liked how it was queit when you ran down the highway, you didn't have to yell because the motor wasn't loud (I miss a loud motor) but now, it's loose, you now have to yell, and it's not motor noise. I'm also not a big fan of the V-8 Vortec. I'd rather have the loud old, rumbling, 350. I have the short bed, regular cab with the Vortec and I get 13 miles to the gallon on the highway. Everyone else with a Vortec gets at least 16, some get much better. this is the main reason I bought this truck, was to get better gas mileage. No dice.

I'm sorry to rant. I know not all Chevy's or GM products are like this. I just got a lemmon. My family until recently when we bought a 2000 Ford heavy duty for farm work had all Chevy's or GMC's, with no problems with any besides mine. When I get out of school (I say this all the time), the first thing I buy will be a 3/4 ton Dodge or Ford Diesel heavy duty.

I just traded off a '99 Chevy Tahoe last November. Similar problems: u-joints, alignment, oil pressure sensor, alternator, A/C compressor, intake manifold gasket and much, much more. All by 60K miles. One more example from the Chevy lemon tree.

My current truck is a 2003 Dodge 2500 4dr 4x4 HEMI. It's absolutely the coolest truck I've owned. My only problem was a loose drivers side mirror. I simply opened the door and tightened a bolt.

This fall I hope to get rid of my 1997 Nissan Sentra and buy a Jeep Liberty 2.8l diesel. I figure It'll make a decent commuter.

Well, I used to have a nice truck, but I got rid of it so I could apply its payment to this June's African safari. Pretty good trade. Now I drive an old 1985 Dodge 150 4X4. It rides rough, gets 11 mpg no matter what, doesn't have A/C, and goes anywhere. It works. I only put about 3000 miles a year on a truck, so I don't worry too much about what it looks like.

I plow snow- we only recieve 150-160 inches a year.

Had a 1991- 3/4 chevy with 454 standard- What a great plow truck I could climb mt everist with a ton of salt on the back- until cluthes started to go and get sloppy- replaced 3 in 13 months- sold it wore out in 2000

Bought a 1999 Ford-3/4 V10- gas hog- feel like it has less torke(Sp)than chevy. Good truck but Ford engineers suck- Had to replace manafold bolts on both sides- Bolts rusted off(Happened to my brothers 1999 ford- cost him 1000, me 600$- used different mechanic)

Have a 3/4 dodge-1996 like to drive it. My laborer plows with it- only had 16 months no problem seems to be a good truck. Small motor.

I would buy another chevy 454 for plowing with 4/10 rears. I loved the power and knowing I could go anywhere.(PS> anyone have one for sale?)

Story- I had my 1991 454 chevy -before I bought the plow- I lived in VA/Dc when the big storm hit- and all dc was closed for a week. I worked for a landscape company and we plowed(5 ford 3/4 duellys-2 wheel drive-Good trucks need weight on back) for 3 days straight. One employee needed to get home to his housing complex- I said I would take him home and we got to his housing development and no one has driven on the deep snow 14-16 inches of snow that was starting to melt and compress. I drove back and I felt like a king. Everyone had there driveways shoveled to the streeet and were waiting for a plow truck and talking to neighbors and looking at us driving on the snow without a problem. There were probably 60-100 people outside because they were tired of being couped up and needed out, and we cruised by just laughing that they were afraid to go anywhere.

Ps our company made 125$hr for a snowplow truck and had profit sharing - We made over 500,000 in 2 weeks- no sharing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif they bought new equipment.(I know to hide profits and that stuff- I have a business too) Needless to say over the period of 17 months I was the most experienced person with he company except for owner and secratary. I lift after that storm- Back to GODS country- Somerset,Pa. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anywhere is GODS country except dc/VA (to $$ greedy- got to keep up with Jones)

Sorry about rambling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

02 dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4 cummins 6 speed. cummins powered trucks are all I will ever drive. 13mpg city pulling trailer at 13k gcvw. and 19 mpg empty mixed city and highway

All the chevy lovers don't want to admit all the probs they have, I had to maintain a fleet of 30 vehicles mostly dodges and 2 chevies, the 2 chevies gave us more problems than all 28 other vehicles combined. plus my personal experience outside of this tends to support my opinion of GM products. I have never seen an auto trans in a chevy truck go over 80k miles at least the newer ones. chevy and ford owners are a very brand loyal bunch, I think dodge owners are not brand loyal generally, so the company knows they must make a better truck

2002 chevy 1500 4x4 single cab, 5.3liter v-8, 5 speed manual, forest green metallic paint. Never had a problem with it. My previous truck was a 2000 chevy 1500 single cab with the v-6. never had a problem out of it either. I think they are good trucks. Does what I want it to do anyway. I also have a 98 jeep grand cherokee that I use for everyday running around. I don't have any good truck stories except the first week I owned my 02 chevy I buried it up to the frame in some mud trying to get to a stand. Made for a long day to say the least.

I started driving Nissan 4x4 pickups in 1984. I liked them because they got 20 mpg or better, and never gave me any real problems. Just last summer I bought a new 2003 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with V6 engine. This is a really nice truck. Drives like a big old Caddy. Even though I only get 11 miles per gallon in town and maybe 16mpg on the hiway (so far) I love this truck. No rattling diesel for ME boys. My neighbor drives Dodge diesel trucks and I can hear him rattle for at least three city blocks. I hate diesels. If I could afford it, my next new truck would be a Dodge 4x4 with the new 340 horse power hemi in it. "Hey That thing got a HEMI?"!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

1987 Toyota 4x4,244,000 miles on it,put a new motor in it at 213,ooo miles,it gets 20mpg,goes through anything,it has a heavy brush guard made out of 3in. square tube steel and angle iron and the whole works is welded into the frame have hit deer going down the highway, and never even flinches,it has a wood flat bed and a camo paint job,it has 31.50x10-15 tires that still dont hurt the mpg.Plan on running it till it dies, then I'll get another toyota, had a 1983 too with just as good a luck, had a few ford F-150's,and chevy's,but I love the toyota. It's only a 4 banger but it will still pull my baot and trailer plus being loaded down with campimg gear and fire wood and get 22 mpg on the highway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've got a 97 Chevy Z-71 haven't really had any major problems with mine besides the normal wear and tear you would expect. Gets about 16-18 mpg on average depending on how heavy my foot is and has a small night rig in the back as you can see!!

My main gone hunting rig is an '89 F250 flat bed with the 460 under the hood. 236,000 miles and still truckin', it is on it's 2nd engine, swapped them at 178,000. The only thing I don't like about it, especially right now, is the fuel milage, or the lack of /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Thankfully, summer has arrived early and the motorcycle does much better on gas /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My only ride is an '89 Ranger X-cab with just under 300,000 miles on the body. New motor, rebuilt trans, redid the rear pumpkin at one point in time.........I'm thinking about crossing the fence and buying one of those Chevy ZR2 pickups, I like the way they sit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My hunting vehicle is a 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 4x4 with the 4-door extended cab. It has the 360 cubic inch V-8 and if I keep my foot out of the carburator I can get 18 mpg in the summer on the highway. Winter time driving almost makes me want to cry. I get about 7 mpg city driving and 14 on the highway

It sure rides nice and I really appreciate the convenience of the two rear doors for getting at my rifle, snow shoes, shooting sticks, etc., etc. I put a color matched Raider topper on it that is tall enough so I can haul my old Kawasaki Bayou 300 ATV in it along with my red fox decoy and all the coyotes I call in and bag.

97 140k, no problems, and still looks brand new, I'm ready to buy a new truck, but I've yet, to find a new truck, that I can't live with out, and I've being test driving, all makes.

I drive a 1984 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a 318 (for now)and a 1982 S10 4x4 on a full sized Blazer frame with a 350 and 6" lift kit and 36" Truxxes tires.Gas milage?LOL...Whats that!!!

My every day driver, 70 mile a day commute, is a 99 Chevy Silverado, half ton standard cab,4X4 short box ZL 1. 114000 miles,
Zero problems, super rig. Has gone everywhere I ask, tows my 22 foot trailer very well, avg. 18 mpg, still smokes the tires, blows the doors off my kids z 28.
Gonna buy a new extra cab just like it, get room fer my dog.
My Brother has a 97 with the 350, great truck, no problems. but my 5.3 Vortec, gets better milage and has a ton more power.
And mine too is, Chevy Red and a matching canopy.
4 wheel disc brakes, I love it.

Last 3 trucks were Toyota Tacomas, had Ford, Chevy and Dodge, then tried Toyota. Won't go back.

Now lets be real, the Toys are just that, they won't tow with a real truck like the names mentioned above. But push a lever and they four wheel great. Push a button and the locker in the rear locks. Now pulling with three. The only change I have made to any of them is to install a limited slip in the front, oops now pulling with all four. I always do this in the first week of ownership when everything is still clean and comes apart easily.

These things aren't stick proof but close. I have pulled my share of the "big" trucks out with my little toy.

Never any serious problems of any kind, usually trade between 100-120 K miles, and they still have good resale.

Maybe I am in a rut but for me it's Toyota all the way. By the way the family car is a Toyota Avalon, what else?

Just traded in my 2003 GMC Sierra Ext Cab 1/2 ton, 4x4 5.3 liter. With a set of stock size TSl Thornbirds on her, from my expierence that truck was impossible to get stuck.... Very impressive 4 wheel drive system on it. But I had to put up getting rained on and rain inside the interior of the vehicle every time it rained or I went through a car wash....... Not to mention I needed more pulling power...

So now I'm driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Crew Cab cummins 4x4. Totally in love with the truck and the cummins engine. This is going to be the last truck I purchase for a very long time.... I'm that satisfied with it.
