TSS - Hog loads

I just got back from a hog hunt last weekend and I decided that I am interested in shooting some form of tungsten super shot out of my shotgun for my next hog hunt. I know it’s super expensive but I would likely only shoot 10 rounds of it a year so I might be able to live with the cost.

Does anyone have any real world experience specifically targeting hogs with tungsten super shot? I am interested in hearing results on what shot size I should be using and what velocity I should be shooting at.

What ranges should I be expecting to get clean kills with with using BB tungsten super shot on hogs? Is it possible to stone cold kill a 200 pound sale at 50 yards? 60 yards? 70 yards?

Should I step up to 4 buck TSS?

I reload multiple shotgun gauges but I have never loaded TSS.

I would appreciate any advice.

You shooting running hogs or hogs from a stand. I killed them stone cold dead with #9 Apex TSS while turkey hunting at 40yds.
When they’re running dogs I use 00Buck shot, but most shots are under 50yds.

I would go with TSS #2 shot or TSS BB shot for hogs. TSS #9 shot is for turkeys or ducks.

From KPY Shotshell Ballistics

I like 3.70" of 20% gel penetration for breaking down and killing 15 to 35 pound coyotes.

TSS #9 shot at 1300 fps gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 8.9 yards with 536 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.
TSS #4 shot at 1300 fps gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 78.9 yards with 125 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.
TSS #2 shot at 1300 fps gets 5.00" of gel penetration at 71.3 yards with 81 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.
TSS BB shot at 1300 fps gets 6.00" of gel penetration at 89.2 yards with 47 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.
Lead #4 buck at 1300 fps gets 6.00" of gel penetration at 38.9 yards with 33 pellets in 1-1/2 oz of shot.

I think I would rather shoot TSS #2 shot through my shotguns instead of the much bigger TSS BB shot.

At 40 yards away the TSS #2 shot that started out at 1300 fps gets 6.67" of 20% gel penetration. The 1-1/2 oz load of TSS #2 shot has 34 more pellets per shell than the 1-1/2 oz load of TSS BB shot has, or 72.3 % more pellets than the TSS BB shot load has.

Remember that all Tungsten shot "ARE NOT" TSS 18g/cc Tungsten shot.

12g/cc Tungsten shot and 15g/cc Tungsten shot can't compete with TSS 18g/cc Tungsten shot.

I appreciate your lengthy reply. And I also appreciate you bringing up the difference between the 12s and the 18. I realize there must be a pretty significant difference there.
