Here is a custom order that I just finished, yesterday. It is hippo ivory and black ebony. This is the call project that I came up with the new closed reed design for. There is no finish on the ivory, except polish. It shines like a diamond. There were deep surface cracks along it (as most hippo ivory does when drying). I sealed them up and incorporated them into the call body to express the authenticity of the call.

I've got one more piece of this ivory left that is suitable for this style of call, but a bit shorter. If you'd be interested, let me know. Not an inexpensive call, but definately unique.

Thanks for looking...

HHHMMMMMMMMMMMMM..................that mouthpiece design looks awful familiar. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Wow! Super nice job, as I knew it would be. Can't wait to have it in my hands. Will put a check in the mail as soon as you set the price.

Thanks for your effort,

Thanks for the fine comments guys. You're a good crew here.

This is the 4th ivory call I've built in the last couple years. It's definatley hard on tools. I ruin a good Forstner bit, everytime I build one, as well as, an inch or so off my lathe tools. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Straycat...that mouthpiece should look very familar. It's used in one shape or another by most closed reed call builders...the design has been around as long as I can remember. I've got an Executive Call from RJ that really sets the bar for them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

OldTurtle...PM on it's way.

Thanks...Tony

George,

Here is a link to one of my earlier post with this new call design. You'll find a few calls at the end of it, where I explain that the newest design incorporates components from each.

The final call is getting closer to what I was looking for as a body style. This was all in preperation for a ebony and ivory call project that I had for quite a few months. Instead of laminating the two pieces of material together, I chose to tenon fit the mouthpiece, to ensure a strong fit and lasting hold. Instead of cutting a lanyard band into the ivory and take away from it's beauty, I incorporated the mouthpiece design of the last call in the post. The large sweeping mouthpiece design was inspired by the Executive and Dinner Bell call from RJ. Of all the custom calls that I own, the have the most comfortable mouthpieces. I've placed the lanyard grooves high on my calls for a number of years now, so that the call may hang verticle, instead of horizontal. This is an extremely important feature when building an open reed call, so that the reed doesn't catch on your clothing and 'click' when you are stalking into a stand. These designs came from real life field testing, as a dedicated caller.

Here is the link to my original announcement post of this design. I lay all my cards out on how the call is design, including the internal components.

If one believes that the mouthpiece design resembles another call, it is not intentional.

Thanks...Tony

Wow, a guy spend some time in his shop and comes out with something he is proud of and it sure does start a storm. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

It's been brought to my attention that my new mouthpiece looks like another call builders. Said call builder has even posted my name on said website, asking for me to change my design. The call in question a bonker with a very similar, yet longer mouthpiece mated to an egg shaped call body like my Furball call design. Out of respect for said call builder, I will make slight changes to my mouthpiece, as to not confuse with his call design.

It was my mistake.

Straycat, I hope you were making a generalization in your comment and not accuzing myself of not putting time and effort into call designs. I've spend countless hours in my shop in design, as most call builders. I spend more hours in the field than most call builders put together. Your points are taken, though that call copying does happen. In most cases, it is by mistake...not intentional, from what I've seen on the boards over the years.

Looks like one of a million other duck calls type shapes . Do a google search on duck calls. Who coppied whom, and who really "invented" this design. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

It is a pretty call Tony...lots of work in it....the lanyard grove as well as the general shape of the exhaust does closely resemble the "Bonker". I am certain you can change it up and still have a beautiful call. Kudos to you......
