I was in the World Predator Calling Contest, last weekend. Like every other contestant, I spent the summer trying to come up with the best Bird Distress sound. I tried every call that I own, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I made up my mind that I'd have to design something from scratch.

I spent weeks in my shop, designing and redesigning the best bird distress call I could come up with. After many trials and errors, I put all the best design ideas into one call. I call it the TT - Starved Starling.

The first two "TT - Starved Starlings" offered up for sale are both Cocobolo. (.223 in photo for size comparison)

This call is a "reed forward" design, as to produce the shortest barrel possible for a clear, non-resonating sound. The majority of the call is a long intake barrel, making it very easy to blow. The lanyard groove if pushed to extreme end of the bell, allowing for lanyard cord to fit between your index and middle finger.

It is a dual reed design, features 2 totally different reeds to produce the shrill harmonics of a bird's distress vocals. One reed starts with the slightest breath and the second one kicks in when you give it a little more 'gas'. This creates a huge variety of capabilities.

I took this call design and tested in Texas on fox, cats, coon, and even ringtails a couple weeks ago. It was absolutely deadly on all four. We were calling in tight cover and had them absolutely convinced, as they trying crawing up in our laps. There were plenty of "shotgun hickies" on everyone in the group. After calling up over 140 animals with it, I knew I had the sound how I wanted it.

Bad news is...Bird Distress was NOT one of the sounds drawn from the hat for the calling contest. Good news is...there is a whole new call in the TT call lineup. One that's going to be a killer new sound for this season! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

This call also excels as a soft and mellow coon squaller. I coaxed quite a few to within mere feet with it doing this on it: Coon chatter sound file

Awesome!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Gotta have one. I'd like the one on the left in the top photo if it hasn't been spoken for yet.

I appreciate the great comment Mark.

The left call is yours Aaron. It's my very first one produced, so I hope it brings you some great luck this season. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks...Tony

I will take the Brown one on the right!! One thing for certain I have never take one of Tonys new calls in faith and been disappointed. I have always been pleased. Remember Cyanide Sheila?

The second call is your Don. I believe you'll be quite pleased with it.

The howler was Cyanide Sheila. I've been having fits with the molding company that's producing it for me. I believe I've rejected more than I actually sold.

Appreciate it.

Tony

I know these are sold but if you'd like to make me one I'd be grateful!

I like the one on the left (darker).

Let me know.

Thanks,

Steve

Nice looking calls Tony. I have a question though. Bruce has taken you hunting it seams like all summer. Where are all the hunting pictures? Am I just not seeing them or are you saving them up for something special later on? What is Weasel going to think? LOL

Good hunting.

Q,

Are you rolling your tongue to get those sounds? I've been practicing and I can't get it. I've been trying to get the bird distress sound with my syco tweety without much luck. First of all, I can barely roll my tongue, then I put a call in my mouth and it doesn't work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I wish you would of had one of these at the expo I would of had to have one. Sounds awesome! I would be interested in one as soon as you get some more made.

LeviSS it is more of a flutering of the tongue. Like ruffles have ridges. Thats how I get that sound anyway.

Steve and William,

I'll make some more up, later this week. I've got a good sized box of cocobolo blanks and will check to see if I have any more dark stuff in there.

LeviSS, I'm more of gurgling my throat, like a growl, more than fluttering my tounge. I can flutter a tounge and do the same thing, but not for 20 minutes on a stand. Gurgling works much better for me. It works on the Psycho Tweety well, without loading it with spit, like a tounge flutter will.

Q, Bruce and I hunted quite a bit on our last 2 week trip down there. We were on a 'job interview' with one rancher to clean out some critters on one of his ranches, to get access to the other 6 ranches he has. It's been a pretty common tactic with the ranchers we've been knocking on doors with. I've got pictures on one of my daughter's cameras, but haven't really posted any stories or pictures. Most of the action is on the video camera tapes. I read on another website the prediction of me posting tons of pics and bragging on every hunt. I'm fixing to prove that prediction wrong and let our clients speak for themselves.

Thanks all....Tony

Thanks Tony!

No rush but I have shown my friends this call and if possible I may need more!

If you can do it great, if not that's fine.

Thanks,

Steve

We forgot a big box of call building components and one of the hotels in Texas, a couple weeks ago. Around $500 worth of parts. In it was 300+ reeds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I believe I have enough in my shop to build 6 or 7 of these calls.

I'll get cranking on them on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday.

Thanks...Tony

It's all good Q. I'm sure our paths will cross in the future and we'll get a chance to know each other outside of the whole internet thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks...Tony
