Any of you guys use dogs for turkey hunting in the fall? Around here we're a dying breed. There's only one other guy in this whole county that uses dogs as far as I know.

I used to have a neighbor with a turkey dog. She was a pointer of some sort. Great dog.

We would basically run them like rabbits. The dog would break the flock and then chase one of the groups until they would fly. Then go back and find where she broke them up and follow another group etc. We would try to get out in front of them as she was chasing them. Lots of fun.

There are so many turkeys in our front yards (at home) that any dog is a turkey dog! Its not uncommon to have 40 hangin around the barn in the morning and its not hard to get 5-10 yard from them just walking up....

I used to love turkey hunting when i was younger and there was some challenge to it... We are so over ran now its not even fun..

Pretty sure it is illegal here. I've watched some videos were they used dogs in the fall season and it looked like fun.

In the fall, in places where it's legal, you use the dog to bust a flock of turkeys and scatter them. Then you put the dog away and set up right where you busted the flock, birds will start coming back inside 15 or 20 mintues...a few soft kee-kee's doesn't hurt...
