Had a great opening day with my son, We each filled our first of the season tag.

Round two today - had some coyotes screw up a turkey hunt on us today. We were doing a run-n-gun and found an active Tom in the bush so we set up on him and worked him for about 20 minutes and he was about 60 yards from us. Next thing you know three coyotes came full tilt at us almost knocking my son over and almost got the turkey. My gun was laying on the ground or I’d have shot one of them at least. My son was dumbfounded so he just sat there watching the whole thing. I've never been that close to a coyote (alive LOL) in my life. They were a mere few feet from us. The look on their face was something I’ve never seen before….kill mode. It was an incredible site to witness and a learning moment. We had just walked through the area they came from so our scent must have been all over the place but they didn't care, nor did they even see us sitting there all in camo from head to toe.

That's cool.

I got out for the first time in MI on Friday. Did some tree yelps just after first light when I heard them start gobbling on the roost. Few minutes later I had a coyote coming straight at my decoys. Wind was not in my favor. I was bow hunting and by the time I started to draw it smelled me, wheeled around and headed in the opposite direction. Never heard another turkey again until 10:30.

Whoa, close call! Guess the coyotes had other plans for that turkey.
