These two demons are turned entirely end grain....First call is Zebrawood, and the second is black locust.....photos don't show it, but both are chatoyant, as is most all end grain, but these are especially so.....

Oh OH - you learned a new word /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Been reading those wood turning books haven't you?

I bet there's not many people who know what "chatoyant" means.

chatoyant[1,adjective]

Pronunciation: sh&-'toi-&nt

Function: adjective

Etymology: French, from present participle of chatoyer to shine like a cat's eyes

having a changeable luster or color with an undulating narrow band of white light

Thats the property that makes osage and mulberry so popular. It also shows when turning with the grain in black locust but not as much as the other two.

I'm quite fond of that little dark marbled call myself. Lookin really good Joe.Jimmie

Just got back in from out of town to find my Zebrawood Demon in the mailbox! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Awesome little call Arky, thanks! I love the way it sounds and it is super nice to blow. Small and compact but packs a punch for sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
