Twist rate for .223 -- 55gr & 60gr bullets

I'm window shopping for a new coyote rifle. Right now I'm considering a few rifles chambered for .223 available in twist rates of:

- 1:7
- 1:9
- 1:12

If I wanted to use 55 grain bullets (SP, Vmax, NOsler BT) and 60 grain bullets (including the Nosler Partition), which twist rate would be the best choice? Don't intend to shoot anything heavier than the 60 grain bullets... not a long range match or varmint gun but a walkaround coyote gun.

Anything from 1/8 to 1/12 will work for those bullet weights...

I have a couple of 1/9 ARs and a 1/12 Remington and the Remington will shoot 1.25" groups at 200 yards.. You will just need to find the right load combinations..

Personally, I prefer the 1/9 due to the wide range of versatility in bullets..but then, I like the lighter weight bullets at a higher speed...

The 1-9 should suit you well, I shoot everything from 40 grain noslers to 75g vlds out of my 26" savage barrel. That being said 50g vmax's and 69g SMK's by far shoot the best with 55g noslers a close 3'rd. I find 1-9 to be a good compromise in twist rates with the ability to shoot the widest range of bullets well.

1:9 in Savage Model 12 VLP Bolt Gun - 26" Barrel. Likes 52, 53, 55 Gr Sierra's AND 69 Gr SHPTB in a pinch (carefully loaded with the right powder).
