Redfoot, I wear the Walker Quad muffs, and yes you are correct that they do have amplification capabilities, but I wear them mostly just for ear protection. I've got tennitis, and I've decided to get serious about saving what hearing I have left. I don't do any shooting these days without hearing protection of some sort. I turn the muffs on but I don't adjust the sound level much higher than my normal hearing ability because if I hear something, maybe a howl in the distance, I want to have an idea of the distance the sound is away from me.
Honestly I don't like carrying them and I don't really like to wear them, BUT when I think about the alternative of loosing my hearing, I've learned to adjust to them.
