Ultimate Sighting System?

With the recent purchase of my new AR (will be delivered Thurs!!) I am needing some optics for it. Someone recommended a brand called NC Star Ultimate Sighting System..Which is basically a 3X9 scope with a secondary red dot mounted on top of it.

Thoughts?

luvs2hunt,

NC Star optics are NOT known for their clarity or ability to accurize a rifle.
To be quite frank, I know I'd never use them at any price. Even free.

Spend some time here in the Optics Forum and read what people are saying are superb optics for AR-15's....I think you'll be way better off, as well as not wasting any money.

A rifle is only as accurate as the weakest link in the chain...and with the NC Star stuff it's pretty weak.

Of course that's only my opinion, but read on in here. There's some great reviews and good advice to be had.

Welcome to PM!

luvs2hunt,
Be wise and listen to Barry, He will be the first to say do it right the first time and spend more money than you thought you should on you glass but you will be happier in the long run.

My really fine glass is far more important to me than most of my rifles

You get what you pay for in Optics... scopes, bases and mounts. The worst is missing the trophy and realizing your equipment was the variable not you!!!

Barry please forgive me is I have drawn inaccurate conclusions based on your Posts.

If your interested in a secondary red dot, this setup is a far cry from the NC Star stuff, if your willing to spend $1,400 in optics. This is a Sightron SIII 6-24X50 LRMD with a TNVC 3PS mount and Aimpoint Micro T-1 red dot sight. It just goes to show you how far you can go to get the perfect P-dog rifle. I use the Burris FastFire mini red dot on my AR-15 as a secondary sight.

I don't think I would recommend the NC Star, but there are several good choices around to consider. FYI, the NC Star ring mount is NOT 30mm but 34MM, and only fits that ACOG type copy.
